Letting go is an art that should be respected and highly honoured, for it isn’t as simple and carefree as it may seem. Toxic relationships often tend to break a person destructively leaving him/her depressed and extremely vulnerable. It is very important to realise your self worth and move on rightly after breaking up. Some people may not even realise that they were part of a toxic relationship and end up devastated upon consciousness. Moving on can be difficult, but it isn’t out of the question. Today, we bring you a few important steps to help move on from your toxic ex after a breakup-
We all make mistakes, we all take the wrong decisions and it is completely humane to do so! What matters is how much you learn from your experiences and apply it in your future. Forgive yourself, accept what’s happening and set your mindset to not look back but rather to progress forward!
Setting your own minor or major goals will help you by causing a distraction. This is the best distraction especially if you want to move ahead with your own life. Some people indulge in easier activities like substance abuse, etc to help create a diversion. However, a healthier and a progressive approach would be to work towards making your dreams come true.
It is a very basic habit to stalk your ex by keeping an eye on what they’re doing 24x7, but that is very unhealthy for you. You’ll never be able to move on with your own life if you keep living for your past. Restrain yourself from stalking your ex and do NOT end up creating a fake account just so you could keep an eye on them!
It’s over! Your relationship happened, you guys made memories, but now it’s all finished. There is no point living in the past and thinking about it all day and night. Of course, there are many things that you could have done, could have said, could have avoided, but why waste your time and energy NOW thinking and regretting those moments? Engage yourself in other activities to cause a distraction from thinking about your ex and that relationship. Do NOT sit bored and recall your past memories!
The biggest step towards moving on and healing from your past is to understand and comprehend why exactly it was important for you to let go. Your good memories with your ex will definitely try and stop you from moving on, but do NOT let that mask the bad moments as well as the toxicity of the relationship.
It is not possible to create a future with somebody who’s abusive, narrow-minded, or overall toxic. Every chance you get, do try and convince yourself that they were not the “one” and that you deserve someone so much better to grow and build your future with.
It is very common for your ex to blame you for being insensitive and ruining everything, especially if you were in a toxic relationship. Avoid overthinking and don’t victimise yourself and accept the blame. You know who you are and you know exactly who slow poisoned the relationship. Stay strong and do not let their words affect your actions.
Another easier way to distract yourself is by spending quality time with your friends. Make more friends and socialise with the people that will help you move forward. Avoid contacting your ex’s friends or any of your mutuals, especially if they often tend to bring your ex into every conversation!
It is very common to develop a feeling of wanting to compare each and everything in your present with what happened in the past. However, that may not always be the case and it might all just be a big misunderstanding. Don’t assume things and try to enjoy your present life rather than comparing with what is already gone.
Not able to trust people easily again is also a sign of moving on from a toxic relationship. It’s okay! Take your own time. But always remember, not everybody is the same. Trust those around you with the necessary precautions, and who knows what surprises are in store for you!
Apart from all the above, do cherish your present and enjoy your freedom!
