Does your Pastor counsel you?

Does your Pastor counsel you? Well, I’m asking this question, because whenever I have problems or concerns, I go to my LDS Branch President for guidance and counsel. I also go to him to help me repent whenever I sinned. So, I was wondering, if your Pastor has an office, in your church building, does he sit down to listen to your problems and concerns? or, for those of you that believe in the Trinity, you turn to your bibles right? And, lastly, do some of you look up to your Pastor as a friend in Christ, counselor, or mentor?

A pastor is a good shepherd of the flock. During the first session for help, the pastor should have another person of the same gender of the seeker present, especially if the pastor is a man and the one seeking help is female. That person could end up to be a mentor. It all has to do with accountability.

Being in Christ, still we sin. The line to the BP or pastor would never stop if we were to look to them for forgiveness. Sounds like Catholic mass as one can go anytime of day and daily to ask the father/priest for forgiveness. The priest has no more authority to forgive your sins than a rabbit.

We can forgive those with something against us, but no one certain person can forgive for us, but the Lord. I have a cousin who says his wife goes to mass all the time and if the conviction was really there, she would stop doing whatever she’s doing. Instead of sin/repent, sin/repent, sin/repent, by the Grace of God, He has paid the price we could never pay. Lay them (sin) at the foot of the cross and just give them to Jesus. Then try not to err the same thing over and over. Nip that ugly thought in the bud before it is acted upon.

Pastors are all of the above, mostly they are MOGs (men of God). They too, sin. And with any person of authority, know that the fire burns hotter for them. If they were to lead someone astray by their actions…mercy! Always think of what could be purged in each of our lives. That is The Refiner’s Fire! Take out all the dross, Lord, make me purer than gold.

I say that a male BP counseling a female must be witnessed, just for accountability. There has been too much violation where liberty is taken, look at the polygamy place…shame…shame…shame. Sad to say our church has not been immune either, 15 years ago, the youth pastor got indecent. After court and moving, he had to have a sign on his lawn saying he was a pediphile.

Are you calling the minister pastor or an elder pastor? I’ve heard both but the proper Biblical use is Elder/Pastor.

Answer #3

In the case of the LDS church, it’s Bishop.
