Child support

My dad is a dentist and he makes about 300,000 dollars a year. He only pays my mom 1000 a month and we struggle when it comes to paying bills while he is in disney with his step kind buying them what ever they want! Yes I am jealous…lol…but I just want to know if he is not paying enough and should we take him to court?

Answer #1

You should feel lucky you get that - a couple of my friend’s dad pay child support and its only $300-$400!

Answer #2

Your 18! Do you have any other siblings, or is it just you. Because honestly he doesn’t have to pay anymore if he didn’t want to. Because you are 18 years old, you are capable of taking care of yourself and can help support paying the bills. If you have other siblings then he still needs to pay but for them only, and not yourself. Sorry!

Answer #3

I agree - feel blessed. My daughter… sees $240 a MONTH. I still manage to pay a mortgage, buy groceries, pay our bills, and I dont complain one bit.

And actually, I don’t allow my children to know our financial situation as it isn’t their concern.

Answer #4

Most family disputes can be settled out of court to avoid court fees etc. I would say that your family should have a long and hard discussion with your Dad about it first. What does your mother do? Does she work and share the load financially? Do you have a large family or an extravagant lifestyle? It all comes into question too.

If both sides are still unresolved, you can hire a lawyer to settle this, and it can still be done out of court. But nothing beats a real heart-to-heart within your family about it to renegotiate a little more family support.

Bringing lawyers or other people into the question will make your family feel as if it’s Mom vs. Dad… and really, no kid should have to be made to choose which side to be on.
