Answer #1

I think all illegal immigrants should be sent back no matter what. I have no problem with immigrants as long as they are coming into this country the proper way. I would also like it if illegal immigrants kids didn’t become citizens.

Am I missing something here? When did the government start giving illegal immigrants nice cars and places to live? Last I checked, most of them end up working in orchards and farms and they’re lucky if they have motorized transportation.

The impact of illegal immigration on wages and job availability depends on who you are, where you are, and what kind of work you do. In the broad scheme, illegal immigration has a negligible impact on US wages, and that’s from a RAND corporation latest study. If all illegals were deported, the vast majority of Americans would see no change in their paychecks. The reason for that is that most illegals and American citizens aren’t competing in the same job market.

The one segment of the population who loses from illegals taking jobs is…well, high school dropouts. High school dropouts usually have to settle for low wage jobs in this country, and more of those jobs are going to illegals. To me, it’s a poor arguement for cracking down on illegal immigration so that we can give more jobs to high school dropouts. We should be finding ways to avoid those dropouts in the first place.

Another interesting statistic is that more than one third of illegal immigrants to the United States live in three cities: Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. Not many legal immigrants or American citizens move to these cities anymore. But even there, competition for wage jobs like construction and waiting tables is not as bad as people think. And if illegals were deported, the void would probably be flooded with legal immigrants, and that would mean that wages would not really go up. Either that of business would find ways to replace human labor with automation.

It is true that illegals do not pay a large amount of taxes but do use benefits, especially the school system, and that does put a drain in states like California. But then again, corporations and wealthy Americans avoid a much, much larger amount of tax payment than illegals do.

I think if we aren’t going to enforce them, we might as well do away with them.
