Are parents mean if they don't buy their 13-15-year-old a mobile because they think it's not for their age?

Answer #1

nope

Answer #2

No, but I think it’s ignorant not to buy your child a phone. It doesn’t have to be a smartphone, just a basic flip phone so they can call you in case something happens. If, they don’t buy you a mobile device, anything can happen to you and they would have no way of contacting you to know where you’re current whereabouts are. My mom bought me a phone at 13. I was carrying her 2nd phone when I was 8 to 12. I see kids who are the 2nd grade with phones.

Answer #3

No. Its up to the parents to decide that sort of thing…

Answer #4

No, they aren’t mean. You don’t HAVE to have one, having a phone can be dangerous if the child doesn’t use it right such as inappropriate pictures, talking about inappropriate things, not paying attention to important matters, giving out numbers to people online, etc. I’m sure they have a good reason to not let their child have one.

Answer #5

Like you said how you carried your moms second phone, they can do that they dont have to have their own lol

Answer #6

I think it’s mean for kids to assume their parents owe them a cellphone. Do you have food? Shelter? Clothing? Then count yourself lucky - you already have more han a large percentage of kids your age.

Answer #8

i understand what u r saying see like everybody in ur school have one ur friends ask u give me ur number or which mobile do u have then will u be that stupid to tell them that. Its insulting :(

Answer #9

Just say “sorry, my phone broke and idk when its getting fixed”:)

Answer #10

No, I don’t think the parents are mean.

If your parents have enough money to buy you a cellphone and are willing to pay the bill then I think they are extremely generous, but it’s extremely bratty to expect it. Cellphones, contrary to popular belief, are not a necessity for most young people. A lot of adults don’t even have one and they live just fine.

Answer #11

Just give them your home phone number? O.o if someone ridicules your for not having a cell phone, 1 that makes them an idiot and already not worth your time and 2 why would you want to impress someone like that?

Answer #12

They granted you life, so you really have nothing to say. Don’t try to be spoiled, no one likes those types of people.

Answer #13

“having a phone can be dangerous if the child doesn’t use it right such as inappropriate pictures, talking about inappropriate things, not paying attention to important matters, giving out numbers to people online, etc. I’m sure they have a good reason to not let their child have one.”

“No, but I think it’s ignorant not to buy your child a phone. It doesn’t have to be a smartphone, just a basic flip phone so they can call you in case something happens. If, they don’t buy you a mobile device, anything can happen to you and they would have no way of contacting you” (Adding: or if something happens to them.)

I agree with both of these. It’s a judgment call, like all the other thousands of judgment calls parents are called upon to make every day. The more you whine and pout about it, the less they’ll think you have the maturity for it. That is, if they can afford it to begin with.

If it’s about maturity, it’s no good telling them you’re ready for it; you have to show them. If it’s about money, earn your own and buy your own.

Answer #14

Depending on the situation. Is the child ivolved in sports, drama, or extracuriculiar activities where they may need to contat parents when a game/practice is canceled. However, I got one when I turned 15 because I was then the only child in the house. So It really does depend on the situation :)
