I am I doing a sin?

I was reading an astrology book and I really like it, and it matched with my personality so well, does God like that? Is it wrong in his eyesight? because I heard something about mediums are evil, but this is just telling about you through your birthdate. like I really love God, but I am not sure if he likes the whole astrology idea, cause im not sure if its medium or not, so I am I sinning?

If you’re wondering whether astrology and Biblical Christianity contradict each other, they don’t. The Bible is full of characters who used astrology trying to predict world events and personal situations. Gospel authors thought it was important to mark both the birth and death of Jesus by astrological events (aspect and eclipse, respectively). Many early Christians, and ancient Hebrews, believed God had designed the stars and planets specifically to predict events on earth. Of course, this is rubbish, but it doesn’t change the fact that they believed it.

So an interest in astrology does not make someone a bad Christian. Modern Christians are just suspicious of astrology because these days, the practice is associated with witchcraft and sorcery. But it’s just that professional astrologists who spend their lives studying the stars are few and far between, as opposed to ancient times.

it’s not a sin, sweetie, don’t worry. if anyone tells you it is, don’t listen. As long as you believe unconditionally in Jesus Christ as your lord and savior it’s okay. curiosity will lead different places, it’s not like you’re starting to practice witchcract haha even if you dabble in astrology and tarot cards, it’s fine. I love to study differerent religions, I’ve studied anywhere from greek to wiccan to satanism…doesn’t mean I’m tossing the bible and rosaries out my window and praying to the devil. Besides christianity stemmed from many different. Christianity is based on several different earlier religions anyways. as it grew, it adapted their cultures, rituals and symbolism in an attempt to lure new members iwht similiar principles they were familiar with, but also to attempt to overwrite those preceding ‘pagan’ religions permanently. In additing other religions into itself, Christianity only added more room for questions. sorry to deviate from the point, just trying to make you understand. hope that helped

Astrology is older than christianity. According to Christanity it is a sin but its if yoiu think it is. you can belive what ever you want. You shouldn’t have to change your belifes to fit a religion you decide what you want to belive and if a religion happens to fit than so be it.

There’s nothing supernatural about astrology (or mediums, for that matter). Both astrologers and mediums rely on some of the same weaknesses in our perception.

Astrology has been refined over the years so that it plays on innate flaws in the way we see the world. It mainly relies on the Forer effect, which is the tendency for people to think that broad, general descriptions apply especially to themselves. Forer was a psychologist who, in order to test this idea, gave surveys to a group of people, completely ignored their answers, and then gave them each the exact same astrology-like description. 85% of the test-takers thought his description of their personality was accurate. :)

A related phenomenon astrologers and mediums rely on is the tendency for people to remember the “hits” and forget the “misses”. If a person is told a handful of statements, and only one of them turns out to be accurate by chance, they’ll have a tendency to be so taken aback by the accurate statement that they’ll completely forget about the inaccurate statements. This is why people will say “my horoscope is always dead on” or “the medium knew uncle Johns name” when in actuality, the horoscope doesn’t match all that well on specifics, and the medium had to say “I’m getting a name… it starts with a T or a J… Jack.. Jim… John.”

This ties in with another trick mediums and astrologers (if you’re having your horoscope given to you by a person) use: cold reading. Magicians, mystics, and frauds have known of this manipulation for centuries. They’ll pepper you with many statements at once, and observe the subtle movements of your eyes and facial muscles, body language, or even unconscious gasps in order to discover which apply to you - without you ever knowing that you’re essentially telling them the answers. Using this they can hone in on specifics through trial and error, but seem as if they’re getting the information from some mystical source.

One interesting thing about these techniques is that you can learn them without knowing it. I met a tarot reader (tarot readers use all these tricks too) who I really think was a good, honest person. She was using cold reading techniques like a pro, but when I asked her about it, she didn’t seem to know what it was. Over the years she refined her technique to the point where she unconsciously discovered each of these principles on her own, and chalked it up to her getting better at readings. The point is that even the folks generating this stuff can be fooling themselves; not all of them are actually trying to trick you.

Another thing to watch out for is flattery. :) If they’re telling you what a good person you are, and only describing your defects in a positive light, they’re probably buttering you up in order to more easily exploit you.

Anyway, I’d just put it aside if I were you. Like I said, there’s nothing supernatural about it, so there’s no reason to think you’re going to be possessed or anything, but it’s certainly not doing you any good.

the devil is the father of all lies and will often try and make you think that wrong is right and to answer your question yes because anything that is not from God is wrong and I bit of advice to you is to stop listening to what people tell you because the devil may be using them to get to you and seek the kingdom of God before you do anything and pray that he gives you the power to discern what is right and what is wrong

as Christians we believe that god is in control of our lives so if we get really serious about trying to find out the future etc then we aren’t trusting god. Yeah its fine reading them for a laugh - I d do sometimes - I reckon they make them up in the mags anyway! They are quite funny really! just don’t get hooked! Chill about! If you feel bad about it then don’t read them!

There’s some very good debunking videos on youtube by some professional stage magicians (unfortunately, I can’t recall exactly who) demonstrating the exact sort of tricks that make people fall for astrology.

Answer #12

No, you are not committing a sin. Astrology is the study of the heaven’s to predict the future. I think that as long as you are trusting God and seeking his will first you will avoid sinning. Understand, however, that no man but a prophet of God has ever predicted the future completely correctly, so it is unlikely that you will be able to forsee your own future using an astrology book. For clarification, a medium is a person who attempts to tell the future or speak to the deceased by communicating with spirits. In the Bible, King Saul went to see a medium and it was considered to be a dangerous sin, so I would advise you to stay away from mediums and fortunetellers.

Answer #13

Scripture does say that those things ARE real, but are not of God. Phycics (cant spell it) lol ect… I know there are some people who use that for good and I think we are to use any gift we have for His glory, but scripture does talk about it and says its not of God. I read my horoscope sometimes for fun…do I rely on it and believe in it. No!

Answer #14
