How should I know if my doctors is going to have to break my water?

How am I supposed to know if my doctor will have to break my water?when I start having heavy pains should I go immediately to the hospital or wait till my water breaks?

There’s no way to predict whether or not you’ll need your water broken. If it doesn’t break on it’s own, then the doctor will do it while you’re in labour.

The general rule is that if you can get to the hospital within 10 minutes, you can wait right up until your contractions are 5 minutes apart. If it takes half an hour or more to get there, then it’s best to leave for the hospital once you determine that your contractions are consistent (every 10 minutes, etc). If your water breaks, however, go to the hospital immediately.
