My grandfather killed himself. Do you think he will go to heaven or hell? Is hell real? Does it say anything about going to hell in the bible? If so where? Does it tell what hell is like in the bible? please help me… I am so confussed, and I love my grandfather.

Answer #1

Read the Bible for answers - Only God knows your grandfathers heart…I wish you the very best !!

Answer #2

Well I know God would understand the pain and suffering that your grandfather was feeling…God is mercyful and he alone knows your grandfathers heart so I think he let him in go Heaven…I believe in Heaven becasue when my brother died the next moring I was sitting in a hotel waiting for my taxi to take me to the train station…my brothes face appeared and he smiled and said I am free, he then laughed and said again I am free and laughted…He died of lung disease and cried when he died,,,he saw Jesus appear in his lving room about 10 years earlier and Jesus looked at him and held out his arms, my brothe said he never ever felt such a warrmth, love and sense and feeling of peace nothing matched it on earth.

well then two days later I saw heaven-never had visions of heaven before—I saw where I could walk on the stars and not fall through—there were clouds of gold on both sides of the ramp and I looked down at earth and saw my brother visiting people after he died. then suddenly he came up to the gold clouds and tried ot figure out if they were real gold…he walked to the clearning and suddenly he smiled and said okay you got me–it was like a invisible tracker beam had caughted him and the suddenly he went to ward the white light…I saw the white light and on both sides were pillars and 3 gold clouds on both sides stacked up neatly…

then while driving home I heard his voice and saw his face and he said “ you would like it here!””” THIS IS A TRUE STORY.//.

Just in case someone else comes back to read this through, I also want to agree that though hell is real, and though suicide would be considered murder, God judges based on a few things.

  1. Have you heard the gospel? If yes: have you accepted or rejected it? If no: He judges based upon your life and works

  2. God judges based upon innocence. Note: this is my belief - I believe that God does not condemn the innocent to suffer in hell. For instance, if you are an infant or very small child before the age of accountability. If there is a problem developmentally, or if there is a deep emotional or psycological problem. For all things things, I feel you would not be judged.

  3. Once you are in heaven you are judged again based upon works. Works do NOT get you into heaven. You are judged in heaven, and rewarded based upon your works.

Just a note: I am very sorry for the harshness of some of the above answers. I feel it is cruel to answer thus in a person’s time of need. I hope you will not judge all of us for the actions of some.

Answer #4

The only unforgiveable sin is rejecting the Holy Ghost . I am sorry about your grandfather . Mine was 81 when he shot hisself. you dont know a persons heart .He was also a WW2 vet and I have talked to my Dad and pastor . God knows his heart. but as I was told by a Army General , those of that era was also taught to kill themselves. In case of being taken prisoner in the war. Once my grandfather got to where he couldnt do for himself and his mind started going back to the war his day home from the hospital he shot hisself before I got to his house . I am sorry for your loss. please understand God knew his heart and I am sure he was dealing with more than what we know about . I have finally got to where I can be at peace with my grandfather’s death .

Answer #5

well put, captainassassin. I think it really depends what you believe. if you’re atheist, then I guess you should just hope you’re right and move on with your life, because his is over. if you’re catholic, then hope you’re right and mourn for your grandpa, because he’s going to burn in h-town. if you’re…etc. -if you really want to know what’s going to happen to your grandpa, do some research into religions, and see if you believe any of them. I recommend searching catholics, jews, and mormons, if you’re looking for a traditional american God. if you want to “think outside the bun” as taco bell so nicely put it, may I recommend the muslim religion…preferably something middle-of-the-road, rather than a radical sect. study them, pray and ask if each one is true. if you get nothing in answer, I guess bail on religion and chalk your grandpa up as a tragic loss. best of luck…funmail me if you have any religious questions. live the dream.

Answer #6

Only Catholic Christians describe suicide as a deadly sin, because it is caused by despair (lack of hope in God). In my own protestant Christianity, there is no clear statement about suicide sending you to Hell. I believe that anyone who has accepted Jesus as their Saviour and Lord is going to Heaven, whatever then happens in their life.

I knew a woman who killed herself during a terrible bout of depression. She had accepted Jesus and I am sure she is in Heaven with Him now. So I believe that committing suicide is not what sends you to Hell.

Hell and Heaven are more to do with choices made when you’re in your right mind - the choice to follow Jesus, or not. Suicide is usually a decision made ‘when the balance of the mind is disturbed’, and I don’t think people are eternally judged on that.

If you know your Grandfather was a Christian, or had made a choice to follow Jesus, then I am sure he has not gone to Hell. If you don’t know that, perhaps Jesus knows something you didn’t! Some people keep those sorts of decisions quiet, so it’s quite possible that your Grandfather was a very quiet, or even very lapsed, follower of Jesus who is with Him in Heaven now.

There are some interesting answers to your ‘wailing and gnashing of teeth’ question on this website:

http://www.middletownbiblechurch.org/doctrine/hodgesgn.htm

That website doesn’t seem to be certain that it refers to Hell, though!

Answer #7

But to anyone who’s experienced God’s unconditional love, which is open to all, what you’re (rightly) condemning is just a twisted version of the real thing. It bears no resemblance to what we’ve actually encountered. I would reject Christianity too, if it really was what you say.

Answer #8

wow all the unforgivables you come up with and there is only one UNFORGIVABLE SIN

“ and the is to reject the Holy Ghost “ that is the only unforgivable in there is . you people need to study your bibles more .

Answer #9

No he wont go to hell . You dont know how his mind was at time . I have battled that and My father is a deacon and we searched for that answer and found that when someone isnt of the mind no matter how old they are .

Answer #10

Captain Assassin … Please modify your answer, to read some Christians believe suicide to be an unforgiveable sin…

…can’t. But thanks for pointing it out. I meant to say ‘’Catholics’’

Answer #11

So to sum most of the answers up, “yes, your grandfather will suffer unbearable agony for all eternity”. Truly they are right when they say the christian God is benevolent and forgiving, and christians are such nice, non-judgemental, good spirited people.

Answer #12

I know it’s said that you do. and im a christian, and dont doubt anything in the bible. but I feel like if your in such a state, that you are confused enough to kill yourself then God may have mercy. I dont understand how you can in your right mind kill yourself, so therefor im unsure how you can be punished for it?

Answer #13

Second of all: HELL IS REAL! It says in the Bible!!!

That proves nothing.

I am a trustworthy and firm christian and proud of it!

…neither does that.

Answer #14

I’m sorry about your grandfather. In answer to your questions,

  1. There is no hell, so nobody goes there.

  2. Biblically, the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Necessarily then, suicide is forgivable from a Biblical standpoint.

Answer #15

in Luke 16:23&24 that there is fire in hell why would they beg for just a drop of water to cool their tongues. I will find that verse for you on Gnashing teeth and fire and weeping in hell .

Answer #16

“do you think he will go to heaven or hell?”

I’m sorry about your grandfather. There’s no easy way to deal with a suicide in the family.

As for heaven and hell, these places are fictional; they don’t actually exist except in human literature.

Answer #17

In my opinion, if life was so horrible that he felt the need to kill himself, he was already in hell. Now he is just gone. It’s sad that he felt that was his best option.

Answer #18

Since nobody on this site has killed themselves, nobody can really tell you what will happen.

If you want a religious perspective: Christians view suicide as an unforgivable sin, and one who takes their own life, is damned for eternity…

…but they’ve been wrong before.

Answer #19

hell is real, and it says in the bible to get to heaven you have to accept jesus as your savior and beleive in him…and it says in the bible that in hell there is fire and the people are weeping and nashing their teeth

Answer #20

my uncle killed himself and a few years later my mom had a dream of him and my dads mom who had died of cancer years before…she told her friend who looked it up in a dream book and it said that the dream ment that they found each other in heaven(?) and are happy…I am catholic and noone really is sure but im leaning a bit towards no for this question

Answer #21

Arachnid, your summary of ‘most if the answers’ is not really accurate. I counted up, and five people said, for various reasons: ‘no, he’s not going to hell’, four said, basically: ‘hell is real but there is nothing that says your grandfather has to go there because of his suicide’, and only two said: ‘yes, your grandfather will suffer unbearable agony for all eternity’. I counted because having followed the whole thing I was surprised to read your summary. Be fair to bballgurl353 and to most of the Christians who’ve replied - the majority of people who’ve responded, Christian or not, do not believe that suicide condemns you to hell.

Answer #22

Captain Assassin … Please modify your answer, to read some Christians believe suicide to be an unforgiveable sin…

I am a Christian, and this is not my belief.

Can you share any scripture to that effect??

My bible says that when we accept Christ as our Savior, nothing can seperate us from him.

Ballgurl... While it is very good to seek out biblical answers to lifes questions, trying to determine where a loved one will spend eternity, is best left in the hands of a loving God. It is not up to us to determine this, nor, are we allowed to know. At least not on this side of the afterlife. For your own good, please continue to seek out what is available thru Christ, as well as what is expected of you, in this life, so that you will be ready for the next one.

God be with you, and bring you peace.
Answer #23

First of all: Now we are talking about sucide right? If we are then he will go to hell. If he didn’t kill himself he will go to heaven if he’s a christian. Second of all: HELL IS REAL! It says in the Bible!!! Third of all: I can not quote from the Bible right now because I don’t have one right now. And lastly it tells about hell in the Bible. I am a trustworthy and firm christian and proud of it!

Answer #24

Suicide is a total waste of time, literally, If it happens, your soul is packed up and shoved right back into another life to do it all over again. Only thistime you will face the same situations with a disadvantage. Your preferred experiences may not be available, and you will endure more insecurity than before. The bottom line is that you cannot cheat yourself, you will finish everything planned. No one aborts their reason for entering into life, he has to do it again.

Answer #25

BASEBALLMANFOR LIFE!!! where in the bible does it say the hell will have fire, and people smashing their teeth? paLease tell me!!!

Answer #26

umm suicide is a unforgiviable sin in the eyes of god…

-Tiana (add me pllzzz)

Answer #27

bballgurl1353 - According to God’s word: Hell is a place of eternal damnation for those who rejected the Gospel of Christ. It is described in the Bible as a horrifying place. Matthew 18:8-9 describes the eternal fire of Hell. Matthew 3:12 speaks of unquenchable fire. And Revelation 20 poignantly describes the lake of burning sulfur and place of perpetual torment.

Hell is a place of constant agony and is set aside for Satan and all of those who reject Jesus Christ. No person on earth would willingly walk into hell. But, unfortunately, so many people are doing just that. In the face of truth and warnings, they continue to live in denial and are walking straight into Hell.

If this is you, please consider heeding the warnings of Scripture and answering the call of the Holy Spirit by accepting Jesus as your personal Savior. 1 John 1:9 promises, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
