What should I base my religious beliefs on?

I’ve recently found myself at a loss. I want some spiritual guidance. I feel as if I need something to firmly believe in, in this world that changes with each blink. But there are so many religions, each with their separate belief systems, I agree and disagree with aspects of many of these religions. I am unsure of how I should make an informed decision on which religion to practice. Any advice?

I feel that you should really start reading the Bible. Everyone does in fact have other religons, but God is the way, and the only way. People just don’t relize that. I hope you can really take the way of believing in God, it says in the Bible, that if you deny him in front of others, he will deny you also. So, I really think you should give being a Christain, a chance. I love God a lot, and he has done a lot for me and my family. I hope this helped, and if you need to talk some more about it, I’m all ears. just message me.

More than half the entire world…bases their entire belief system on dead men, from the desert, from more than a millenia ago.

These beliefs include (not all religions, but, the vast majority…) being able to talk to any species of animal being able to transform water into wine being descended from the same two people and that god has an infinitely large, uncircumsized penis.

I don’t know about you…but, I choke on that last one, personally. :)

Faith can’t be measured in terms of logic…while I hold onto mine, yours may slip away. While mine may vanish in the light of the sun…yours may shine brightly. I can’t, nor can any man or woman, tell you what to believe.

To me…your beliefs should bring you peace. A smile. Hope, for yourself, loved ones and humanity in general. If it doesn’t…then it’s probably not real.

Most other religions or spiritual awakenings or whatever you call it do not involve a personal relationship with a God who loves you no matter what you do. That’s why I’m a christian. With Christianity you can truly have a relationship with God and that’s what it’s all about. With most other faiths, you are just serving a god and have to do good works to get to heaven. All you have to do with Christianity is have faith in God. God will always be there for you and He will protect you. I’m not saying that everything will be good in your life but when something bad does happen you can trust that God has a plan for you and loves you more than anything. First of all what religious organization are you currently with? Friends and Family close to you, have you consider studying their belief? I’m currently a believer in Jesus Christ. I will gladly share my testimonies and bible studies with you.

What you need to base your beliefs on is one that is most logical. it only seems logical that you believe in the one and only God Almighty. I say this because in many other religions the belief is in someone who was once a human like us, and we know how humans can be. Yes Jesus was once man but only given as a token so the we may live an everlasting life. God of whom created the universe is the one Higher power of all the religions that does not have a base on that of which makes another man higher than another man. God is an almighty God whose power that is based not on giving himself life or himself offerings to make him rich but are based on making us rightous in his eyes and to make our lives more right.

I’m just going to say that it’s up to you. There will always be confusion no matter what religion but that is why you talk to others and ask for support. I am a Christian and have been for 12 years. Without God I would never been able to get through all the crap I had been through. I still don’t know everything about Christianity but I know that God always loves me no matter what I do and he loves you. I know I might sound like a religious nut but I’m 16 and know that without God to get me through everything I might not be here today. I hope this helped and if you need more info or want to talk just message me. :)

if you look closely and study a lot, you will find that a lot of religions are loosely based on cultural interpretations of natural history. So explore the natural history of this planet and the creatures on it, and make your own conclusions based on what you feel is appropriate and obvious. If Christianity doesn’t make sense to you then you aren’t a christian. If none of the religions make sense to you, become one of your own. It doesn’t matter who you pray to, as long as you follow the rules.

Why do you think the ‘’other’’ option in the select religion dropdowns exist?

Answer #9

Not to play favorites, but I think you could benefit from at least researching buddhism. In fact, it’s not much of a religion at all. It’s more about experiencing your own spiritual awakening, and remaining in deep spiritual contact with your inner self. And that’s a good thing for just about anyone, I think.

But if you really want to choose a path, do your research. Learning all you can about all the different types of religion out there can really make a difference in determining what you do or do not believe in.

But I personally think you don’t need a religion to tell you what to believe and what not to. I say, whatever you feel is right for you, go with it. Religions, in my opinion, tend to only hold a person back on their own spiritual journey. And they’re generally one size fits all. But no two people in the world are exactly alike. You need to just stick to what you truly believe in and to hell with everything else.

Answer #10

lol aubr3y, you have an interesting way of looking at things. Other religions are ridiculous because of xyz, but the ridiculous stuff in my religion makes sense because it just does.

You’ve got a couple of options here. Pick the religion with the most you believe in, then you hold close to the beliefs you have, discard the ones that dont make sense to you, but you’ll have a community of people with similar beliefs. Then, you’ve got the other option, which is to pick and choose your beliefs. And just have your own faith without having a religion. The upside of this is you wont have people telling you what is right or wrong. But you wont have the community support either. I’ve managed to find a non-denominational church that welcomes all religions, all beliefs, or lack of beliefs… It’s held in the christian tradition, but the pastor’s beliefs in God are very similar to mine (almost bordering on a deist faith). So, there’s lots and lots of faiths and ways of doing spirituality and religion out there. You can do whatever you please. The thing is, you’ll never know for sure what you believe is in fact the truth. But as long as you have faith in it, it isnt causing you or anyone else harm, and it brings a sense of peace and purpose in your life, then it is has satisfied its purpose.

Most important thing to go by is “Life”,where there is life there is what most of us call is ‘GOD’;now just like any Religion there is a manual to go by.Now according to the manual I go by there is only one God and Jesus is that God,this manual is the Holy Bible, which well keep you out of trouble aswell,it’s here for a reason just like any other manual you might read but this one states it well get you to Heaven, see no one can make this decision for you, remember where their is Life their is Death and vice-versa,all this is for a reason and you know we just didn’t pop up out of the blue, right?.Were not suppose to know the secret’s to the next phase, please give this much consideration your Soul depend’s on it.A Light Bearer,Robert.

Answer #12

Before you begin to think about your beliefs you need to think of something…

Are you looking for a label? There is no rule that limits you to picking an already existing religion and accepting every aspect of it. I really think you should look up Unitarian Universalism. It is a religion that lets you choose whatever you want, which means if you like something from buddhism, christianity, and another religion, you are perfectly free to believe in the particular aspects of each of those that you like. You dont have to accept the whole package of either. Look it up I think it might be what you are looking for good luck!

Answer #13

With the unItarian universalism we just totally ruin the point of having a relationship with the true God who loves us. We just make religion work for us. This means that there will always be flaws because no one is perfect. That’s the beauty of God. He is perfect and will always love us

Answer #14

How about this Believe in yourself! Do what feels right to you and take it from there. You don’t need any religion. If what you believes just so happens to fall under a religion then follow it if it feels right. If not, oh well. You don’t need to have any faith in any religion, just faith in yourself and what feels right to you, point blank.

Answer #15

You’re confusion is normal. There are thousands of religions on this planet, and they can’t all be right.

…but they can all be wrong. You might try philosophy rather than religion. It provides a sense of spirituality but without all the mumbo jumbo and silliness.
