What do they do to people who want to kill themselves?

What do they do to you if someone says you want to kill urself? Will they like arrest you? Or put you in a psych ward? I always kindof wondered what happened to people like that.. Like if your suicidal are they going to sign you up for a therapist or lock you up or what? Just a stupid question I was wondering about lol.

no its not a stupid question…well love ill tell you from expireince..they lock you up in a phyc ward and you go through intense therapy and you have to supervised with everything…it sucks!!!

Answer #2

This isn’t a stupid question at all. If people are suicidal, most likely they’ll lock you up you’ll go through counseling. The police won’t arrest you. From experience, I was very suicidal but, I never went through with killing myself since I have friends from church that care enough about me to get me help. I’m not in any mental institution or anything. Just regular counseling. The reason I was kind of suicidal because of family problems. Also, having flashbacks of growing up. If you have friends, then most likely, you won’t get locked up.

okay, someone said that they will tell you from experience, but I’ve bin through it all. so what happend to me was I was admitted into a normal hospital. I had counciling to see WHY I did it and how we can stop me from feeling that way. then I was released and had to continue going to councilling until I was happy again. but in my case, until I told them to f*ck off. =]

hope I helped.

I frown upon the term “lock you up”. As that is not the case at all.

If someone is severely depressed and labeled as suicidal - this would imply they are at risk of harming themselves.

Generally you are brought to a psych ward (they are often hidden within the hospital). A psych ward is almost like assisted living.

You will work with a psych on finding the proper medication (more often than not depression is due to a chemical imbalance that which we cannot control) that can help adjust the chemicals in your brain ensuring you are receiving a balanced amount (there are multiple chemicals that this effects)

Also you would go to both individual and group therapy. The benefit of group therapy is that the individuals involved are able to see they are not alone and there is nothing truly wrong with them. Often times I think society labels this as a stigma that leaves affected individuals feeling as though they are the odd man out and now must carry this scarlet letter with them.

However - The length of time spent can range from a few days to a few months. It depends on the severity of the problem and the potential damage that was done to cause the depression (I.e. is it chemical, is this PTSD, etc)

You’ve obviously never been “locked up”… because unless you happen to land in a nice hospital that is pretty much what it is…

This really depends on like a thousand things… Who you tell, the circumstances, where you go, whether they trust you to go home with someone who will put you in counseling, etc etc.

If you disclose it during therapy, it will depend on how suicidal you are…

If you tell someone else, well they may choose to institutionalize you for a bit (and note, in general they only keep you in the place till you stabalize, it isnt a long term thing, usually they can hold you for 10-14 days before they have to make some sort of long term decision). From there they either put you on drugs and outpatient therapy (again, this really depends if you’re not from the rich side of town their is no private individual therapy available to you unless you or your family can afford it), or if it really is bad enough (and that means if you’re completely incapacitated and cant function) then they may send you to a residential facility.

Some places are nicer than others, some are just big rooms with beds, chairs and a tv, some are nicer with private rooms and such…
