people wanting to kill themselves

I’m sorry I didn’t respond sooner. I was actually called last minute, and had to drop everything, and go and speak in a meeting on this topic tonight! Life is crazy like that sometimes. Sometimes, people who say that phrase are just saying they want to die because they don’t know how to express what they’re truly feeling. They need people to HEAR them, and take them seriously. As paramedics, we usually ask them if they have a plan, and suprisingly few people want to DIE…they just don’t want to HURT inside anymore, and don’t know what to do. a lot of times, in our desire to be helpful, we try to fix peoples problems, or come up with a solution for their questions. Sometimes, a person just needs someone to TALK TO, so learning to listen is a process I struggle with all the time. Obviously, professional help is the best bet, but in the journey of life, when your own ear can hear the sound of your own voice, sometimes suprising answers come from deep inside. Wow, who knew there they were all along? Nobody knows my heart, my soul and my pain better than me. So, I am the only person who must take the responsibility to meet my needs. Both medically, sure, but more recently for me, I finally understood the feelings of hopelessness, dispair, confusion, defeat. I understand that dark place. I live a different life today, made a lot of changes, learned to set boundaries and gain self acceptence and worth. I certainly didn’t do it overnite, and I didn’t do it without help and support. But I wouldn’t trade my worst day today for my best day then, because I’m learning a new way to live. Hope this helps in some small way. Take care!
