What could this mean?

My friend went to the hospital and she had high blood pressure (first time like 190/120 or however it goes) then it went slightly down, she is pregnant and is due at the end of september or beginning of october…she had blood in her urine and high protein levels…what are all the possibilities of what this could mean?

Answer #1

The doctors sent her home from the hospital! Which kinda freaked me out, considering all of the above plus the blood in her urine!

When I was pregnant my blood pressure was consistent at around 150/90. My doctor’s didn’t like it but the day they induced my labor it went to 195/118…that apparently is a lot worse.

Try not to worry, they will take care of her.

If her blood pressure went down then she’s out of the immediate danger. They are probably going to keep a close eye on her. If she starts getting any abnormal headaches have her call the doctor (headaches are a sign of your blood pressure going up). Or if she starts to have really bad pains in her stomach area, kind of where her liver is then she should go to the hospital immediately. That’s a sign of liver failure (which happens when Toxemia is not controlled).

She should be fine, just tell her to take it easy, lots of bed rest and NO stress.

It didn’t drop to what I would say is safe…I think she said 144 over 99 or something like that…which to me…isn’t good.

Answer #5

High blood pressure is a sign of Toxemia…this is very dangerous and could seriously harm her and the baby.

Is she in the hospital now? Most of the time doctor’s will keep a woman with Toxemia in the hospital to make sure that everything is okay. Protein in the urine is a sign of kidney problems…which goes along with Toxemia.

I had Toxemia with my last pregnancy…I spent 2 days in the hospital about a month before I had my daughter. I was sent home when my blood pressure went back to normal. 2 weeks before I was due my protein count went up and my blood pressure went up…my doctor induced my labor right away…my daughter was born 29 hours later. I had to have a magnesium sulfate drip after she was born for 48 hours to make sure that everything would be okay. I am ok and so is my daughter.

The doctors will take care of her so try not to worry too much.

Good luck :)
