Stiff-legged (Romanian) dead-lifts are pretty good too... But this exercise is for people who are looking to do weight-training. If you don't want to use weights, then squats and lunges are the way to go.
lay on your back and bend your knees and lift your ass off the ground it don't feel like much but it works
Seventeen magazine has great butt workouts. I think lunges will do you good, not sure though.
