Were there one or two trees in the middle of the garden of Eden?

Were there one,or two trees in the middle of the garden of Eden?

Answer #1

My Bible refers to the tree in the ‘midst’ of the garden (not middle) - matters not anyway, Salvation matters.

Answer #2

Considering that both trees played a very important role in the story of Adam and Eve and of man’s ultimate relationship with this god, I’d say it matters very much. I’ve always wondered why such trees would be put there to begin with.

Answer #3

I absolutely agree with amblessed’s comment. But I just cut and pasted this from Genesis 2 in case you’re interested:

“Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

Answer #4

I think it’s all metaphorical, eleni, although not all Christians would agree. So it’s the meaning that is significant, not the actual trees. I think that the trees symbolise God’s gift of free will and our human tendancy to choose badly and then blame others for our decisions! That’s why amblessed’s comment about salvation being what matters resonates with me - we choose badly but God still gives us a way back.

Answer #5
