Should they apologize?

When Obama announced in October he was taking a few days off from campaigning to visit his ailing grandmother in Hawaii, many conservatives questioned Obama’s real reason for going to Hawaii, including Limbaugh, Michael Savage, and Obama Nation author Jerome Corsi.

Limbaugh: Who announces days in advance they’re rushing to the side of a loved one who is deathly ill, but keeps campaigning in a race that’s said to be over, only to go to the loved one’s side days later? See, I think this is about something else. You know what’s really percolating out there? And I’ve been laying low on this because it just – it hasn’t met the threshold to pass the smell test on this program. But this birth certificate business, this lawsuit that a guy named Phillip Berg filed in Philadelphia in August for Obama to produce his genuine birth certificate, and he still hasn’t replied, he hasn’t done so.

Limbaugh: When you first announced this, you’re going to rush, you’re going to hurry, you’re going to make tracks, you’re going to get over there because you don’t want your grandmother to die before you got there like your mother did, but somehow you keep campaigning, you take three days to get over there, if he’s left yet. And this birth certificate business – I’m just wondering if something’s up. I have no clue, and I – folks, I’m telling you, this has not reached the threshold until now, and it’s now popping up all over the place.

Corsi: I’m headed out to Honolulu. I am not convinced that Barack Obama is going because his grandmother is sick.

Coris; I think I’ll accomplish something in Hawaii, too. Obama’s headed out there, and I believe there’s a court challenge that if Obama does not dodge, he’s going to be forced to produce a birth certificate, and there’s going to be something damaging on that birth certificate, because even at the eleventh hour, Obama refuses to show us the hospital-generated birth certificate when he was born. (BTW This is a lie)

Savage: Do you actually believe he’s going to Hawaii to visit his ailing grandmother with 10 days to go until an election? Do you actually believe that? Do you actually believe he’d be going to Hawaii at this time with 10 days to go? You actually believe that? No, no, no – no, no, no, no, no. No. There’s some other reason that he’s leaving the mainland of the United States in the midst of this toe-to-toe struggle right now, and it’s got to do with his birth certificate.

Savage; And Obama’s leaving for Hawaii – why? Why? What’s he doing there? Why’s he going there, huh? What’s he going there for, huh? Why’s he going to – the last phase of a race, he’s getting off the track just to visit his grandmother? Don’t be stupid. It’s the birth certificate issue, you fools, you.

Given the turn of events yesterday with Obama’s grandmother passing away, shouldn’t these people being out there making public apologies for three days, since they spent three days criticizing Obama and accusing him of lying about why he was visiting his grandmother?

Should the conservtives on this website be up in arms that people they look to for the truth have been lying to them? Shouldn’t they be leading the call for these guys to be fired? Or do they think it is ok to accuse a presidential candidate of faking his grandmothers illness for political reasons?

And what do you expect me to do with this. Am I to accept your word for it that there were sources? How about finding things out for yourself, and not accepting things heard on an AOL message board as truth.

“I forgot to mention that Obama’s wife and kids went shopping while he visited his grandmother while they were on vacation, so I assume that they did not see her.”

Of course, because they must have spent the entire week they were there shopping, and didn’t have any time at all to visit with her. That was a good assumption.

Well that nails it. Leaving on Saturdays to go to Hawaii is clearly something to be suspicious about.

There could be a million reasons, but it is obvious the reason was not because she wasn’t really ill. I can’t beleive that after the grandmother actually dies, you people are still trying to cast doubt over why he originally went, and imply he was faking her illness.

Wow irrismith, take it easy. I can’t handle that much detail all at once…

How about some sources, references, links? Anything to support what you say?

There were three things that made me doubt whether Obama was really there to see his grandmother. I heard reports that he was seen walking around and in a courthouse, possibly taking care of the business with his birth certificate, while in Hawaii. I heard that while he was vacationing in Hawaii earlier in his campaign, he spent only thirty minutes with his grandmother the entire time he was there. I would think if his grandmother was dying that his wife and kids would have come with him to see her one last time. After finding out his grandmother died, I wonder whether that might have been true. It still seems suspicious to me. Why didn’t his wife and kids go and see their grandmother-in-law or great-grandmother one last time before she died? I do not think that they should have to apologize. I think that they were just expressing reasonable doubt. You have to admit that there seems to be an air of suspicion.

Saying someone is faking their grandmothers illness is not an opinion. Saying someone is faking their citizenship, even though birth cirtificates have already been provided, is not an opinion. These were baseless accusations. They were blatant attempts to use Obama’s grandmothers illness to score political points, to further smear him, and to cast doubts about his authenticity.

amblessed, you have a penchant for bringing up completely irrelevant subjects. Are you not able to answer a simple question? Do you think it is ok to accuse a presidential candidate of faking his grandmothers illness for political reasons?

nigil800, care to provide us with your source for all this suspicion? And did it ever occur to you that his kids had school, and that they did just see her over the summer. I never heard anyone say McCain was lying about his POW camp experience. Please show me someone who said that, or admit it is untrue.

EVERYTHING IS SUSPECT WITH 0BAMA!!! this is why even a touchy subject like a family tragedy is up for such scrutiny… remember we try not to even give the perception of wrong-doing, for we all know perception ALWAYS outweighs reality…my condolences, regardless…but to answer the question, no .. no apology needed.. had he been more transparent this probably wouldn’t be happening anyway…

Maybe they’re waiting for the example set forth, 2+ years to pass first like Murtha, who hasn’t yet - so it would appear they have plenty of time - ‘rush to judgement’ but not ‘rush to apologize’:

From that moment, the liberal media fell in love with John Murtha. Now they run to him and eagerly repeat his defeatist message in their newspapers and on their 24-hour cable news channels.

But facts are stubborn things.

Seven of the eight Marines he accused of murder have been cleared of all charges.

The Marines, their families, the U.S. Military, and the American people are waiting.
