Should Liz Trotta be fired?

Liz Trotta, a Fox News correspondant, was discussing the RFK comment by Hillary on Fox News on Sunday, and she said this: “And now we have what some are reading as a suggestion that somebody knock off Osam, uh Osama, uh Obama. Well, both, if we could.” She then broke into laughter that was greeted by host Eric Shawn’s reply: “Talk about how you really feel.”

Can you imagine the uproar if someone on another network suggested that it would be a good thing to assisinate McCain or Bush, even jokingly?

Do you think Trotta should be fired?

Some are saying she should be charged with a crime.

toadaly, when you get a chance, watch the video. Just google “liz trotta obama” and it will come up. She was talking about Hillarys comments, but she stumbled on Obama’s name and called him Osama twice (not the first time that has happened on FAKE News), and then added the “Well, both, if we could.” That was her comment.

rnealw, you are right. Humans make mistakes, and sometimes they get fired for them. Don’t you think she should?

This was completely outrageous. She was actually saying it would be a good thing for Obama to be “knocked off”. Even if it was a joke, it was in the poorest taste. But what can you expect from Faux News, and a Washington Times reporter. If this had been another network saying something about knocking off McCain, the press would have been all over this. This happened four days ago, and how many people here had even heard about it?

I agree that criminal charges are not warranted, but firing her is. At a minimum she should be suspended. David Schuster got suspended from msnbc for making his comment about the clintons pimping out chelsea. To me, Trotta’s comment is far worse.

Answer #3

I guess I’d have to see more of the context. From your post, it sounds like she’s reporting what someone else said. But, if this really was her joke and not just a report of what someone else was suggesting, then yes, she should be fired.

Answer #4

I agree way too much was made about Hillary’s comment. It was a stupid remark, but she wasn’t being malicious. You really have to see on the video of this. It is unbelievable. But that’s FOX for you…

Like I said, if it were the other way and someone on another network said that about McCain, FOX would be reporting on it non-stop.

Answer #5

Personally, I think it’s RIDICULOUS that people were making this huge uproar about the reference that Clinton made regarding RFK. Clinton was saying basically that big events have happened in presidential elections as late as June, so she doesn’t want to quit now. The fact that this newscaster thinks it’s OK to joke about a current candidate being assassinated makes me sick. And the fact that nothing seems to be done about it makes me sick, especially after all the slack Hillary took for her comment.

Humans make mistakes yes, but she knew what she was saying.

Answer #6

yea she should definitely, that is out of hand and pretty stupid if you ask me..

Answer #7

I watched both, her initial “joke” and her apology. Her “joke” was obvious and did not seem to be a slip of the tongue. Her apology seemed sarcastic. I believe prosecution is not in order but dismissal is. I would feel the same if the “joke” had been regarding Bush, McCain, Cheney etc. As a televised journalist, you don’t “joke” on air about the assassination of any politician.

Answer #8

She’s Human. . . Humans make mistakes.

Answer #9

I think criminal charges are a bit harsh, but at the very least she should offer a televised apology, perhaps a written one specifically to the Obama campaign. And as toadaly said, if she was just joking around, there should be further consequences.

I’ll have to google the video myself once I’m out of this damn airport
