What did the slaves get as like, an apology when they were freed?

Yes it does. When the slaves were freed they all got a donkey or mule something as an apology. I think. Or was it rice?

NO! I just remember, it was a mule, and like, three acres of land, I think.

When the Union general Sherman went on his “march to the sea” he liberated thousands of slaves from plantation life. Many of these slaves joined Sherman’s army. When the war ended, Sherman ordered that 400,000 acres of land in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida be given to some of the freed slaves, along with excess mules the Army had no use for. This was the “40 acres and a mule” reparations plan that people refer to today.

However, the plan was revoked by Andrew Johnson, who became president after Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Freed black slaves never really got any reparations from the US government, and would be harassed and exploited in the South for years to come.
