  A root canal is needed when a tooth becomes so decayed that it needs to be deadened in order to save it. The dentist hollows out the living material within the tooth, leaving only the enamel. The inside of the tooth is then filled with an inert material.

  The dentist removes the root aka the nerves from your tooth so it wont hurt anymore. And I had one a few months ago and I's not as bad as it sounds...
