What could be a reason for random stomach aches (more)?

My boyfriend always gets them randomly. He’d be eating and then he will have a stomach ache. His diet hasn’t changed much the past year, but I’ve noticed that recently he gets them more often lately.

Answer #7

Stomach aches are often one of the hardest things to figure out, once ulcers and stones have been eliminated. The most common cause is diet.

Does he drink milk? Could it be a sudden lactose intolerance? It’s common for that to happen in your teens, early twenties. But you’d probably know, Janice (and it ain’t pretty :) )

He may also be sensitive to wheat… high fibre foods like corn, cabbage, or spicy things. It’s really annoying to do this but make him carry around a notepad for a couple of weeks and keep a record of what he eats and when he gets the pains, he may see a pattern.

It took my sister about 30 years to figure out it was aspartame in chewing gum that caused irritable bowel syndrome in her. With me, i finally figured out it was certain spices like paprika, nutmeg, and something in curry, still don’t know which spice, lol.

Good luck!!

Answer #8

Thank you that was really helpful! It’d be rather hard tp drag him to a doctor since he doesn’t see it as a problem.

Answer #9

Oh! Another thing to consider - a heightened sensitivity to MSG which is found in most canned food, soups, snacks, chinese food etc. The pain happens within about 90 mins of eating, and usually lasts 2 to 3 hours. It’s different in everyone, but with me it’s a dull kind of hot/cold sensation in tummy (very hard to explain) and a headache at the top back and top sides of my head.
