My toddler wont eat.

My son is a year and a half and has just gotten over being sick a week ago. When he was sick, he was sick for a week with cold symptoms, cough and a fever. Now, he still wont eat that much. He just takes one bite of pancake and a couple drinks of milk for breakfast. Im worried he will loose a bunch of weight. He already looks a little bit thinner than he did. What can I do?

It’s normal for a child to lose their appetite when they get sick. However, given that you said you’re son is already looking a bit thinner, I’d try to encourage him to eat as much as possible. Try simple foods, gerber, etc - even though he’s a year & a half, my older soon (now five) was eating the baby food that was the 6-12 month old variety till he was almost two.

Other than that, try bread, toast, etc, or pasta / something that he can have fun with. Even though my younger son didn’t like pasta for a long time, he enjoys slurping spaghetti noodles. Perhaps that will work for your son.

You should also consider calling the advice nurse of your local pediatric office, every time I get concerned, I tend to call them up or ask another parent for advice. Two different ideas & perspectives can sometimes help.

Good luck, and hope your son feels better.
