My baby is not eating solid food.

all babies are different, perhaps he is not ready for solid food yet. what types of food do you give him? gerber 1st foods are good because there are no additives. I read that babies have a gag reflex/tongue-thrust reflex that enables them to drink and swallow liquids, but as for solid foods, it causes them to gag them up. this reflex usually diminishes between six and seven months. looks like your son is a bit late, you could see a doctor and talk to them about his late development. you shouldn’t worry too much, though, all babies are different when it comes to development.

My son at 19 mos was still gagging & throwing up anything with a lump in it. He cannot eat solids, even though he tries hard to and reaches for our food. He was diagnosed with Laryngo Malasia (sp?)-a malformed larynx, which he should have outgrown at 18 mos accd to the textbooks. He FINALLY started to be able to eat some foods (banana slices, soft slippery stuff) at 20 mos. We still puree’ most everything. The most difficult is that he doesn’t sleep well because he is always hungry. Be patient! I spent money on an occupational therapist. She told me his jaw was not strong, which could be true because he doesn’t eat solids, but not the cause.
