Who here knows about the new marijuana laws in California?

Do you think more states should implement those laws?

Answer #1

yea dey should approve does laws :))

Answer #2

There was never any good reason to put people who smoke pot in ja.il. Yes, i think all the states should make it legal. They wont. The conservatives have moved further and further to the right and towards Sarah Palin. They’d never allow it to happen in ‘real America’.

Answer #3

In my opinion, I think they shouldn’t make it legal…once they make it legal there will begin issues with making all other softer illegal substances legal & there you go…back to the 60’s & Woodstock!!!(peace, love & rock & roll) UGH!

I think it is bad enough that people misuse marijuana today as is! It should be used for treatment ONLY not because people are bored & need a way to chill & get high!

Answer #4

Yes. The 60s. The women’s right movement. Equality for minorities. Civil rights. Political movement of the youth. Anti-war sentiment. Yes, it was just terrible.

Answer #5

I dont think it should be legal. I dont even think it should be decriminalised. I dont think it should be the top priority for law enforcement either, but the fact is, it does have harmful effects on the brain and legilisation for many people would say to them this isnt the case. It is the case. It is harmful, no matter what you want to say about it, I have read many studies on this. I dont really have a problem with what people choose to do with their own lives, as long as its not afffecting other people but I dont think recreational drug use of any kind should be encouraged.

Answer #6

for sure

Answer #7

the fact that they want to legalize it in order to tax it, is a crock. They will have absolutely no control on who grows it, who reports what they grow, and how much they make from it.

Answer #8

They manage to do it with alcohol and tobacco. Why would this be so much different?

Answer #9

Which came first… the criminal or the law? Laws shouldn’t precipitate crime… or the state of being criminal. If the only person the criminal harms is himself… he isn’t committing much of a crime. We have an expectation to live our lives as best we see fit. As long as our actions do not directly impact those who cannot exercise the volition to separate themselves from such an impact… they shouldn’t be criminal. Laws that impose upon this personal freedom are Draconian.

If we decriminalize vices then we free up law enforcement. Laws have not affected usage. Laws have turned lower socioeconomic neighborhoods into no-mans land unfit for habitation. Laws are a boon to the societal dregs who use whatever manner necessary… namely violence… to keep addicts supplied.

Ashtabula Ohio recently cut its sheriffs dept. by more than half due to the recession. Counties and States country wide are facing severe financial deficits. It makes little sense to use tax dollars to enforce laws that lead to an increase in theft… an increase in pri$on inmates… inflate the costs of FDA approved legal alternatives… and tie up so much of the police departments budget.

The unfortunate truth is that the black market is lucrative for both corrupt police and all levels of government from local to federal.

I disagree with Ty’s observation that those on the right are moving towards a more Draconian state. I see more and more people wanting to be simply left alone. They seek a small central government. I’m certain they are fed up with the high cost of prescription meds. Perhaps they have espoused contradictory sentiment regarding the role the central government plays dictating vice laws… if so it doesn’t hold true to their stated goals and we should be using this contradiction to persuade them towards amnesty.

As far as state laws are concerned… this is where vice laws should be adjudicated and we as citizens of the state can voice our support or disdain for the laws by staying put or moving to other states more in tune to our sensibilities.

Answer #10

The new laws I’m talking about is saying its legal to have an ounce on you and to own your own little private gardens to grow it yourself. It hasn’t gone through yet its going to be on the ballot this year.

Answer #11

What? Where have I been?! It’s legal to have an ounce? Sorry, I’m in a nutshell lol

Answer #12

I saw it on the news last night. It is going to be voted on, to where you can possess an ounce no problem, grow your own personal garden of marijuana, and it won’t be legal throughout Ca but each town and county can decide whether or not they will allow sales of marijuana.

Answer #13

TY, not talking about all the other stuff, was a point to be made about illegal substances regarding marijuana & other illegal substances! please dont read what isnt there, what I wrote is very specific about this subject”marijuana & illegal substances” not all the other issues you stated above!!

Answer #14

I agree with you 100%, too bad other people dont see it that way & just use it because they are bored or looking for an escape from reality…make that legal & it will affect other people that dont or cant even stand the smell of it. Just the way they are trying to ban cigarettes from every public area…that is where they are headed if they all make it legal to smoke it…it will start at home, then in public parks…children will be inhaling it as they do smoke from cigarettes…I mean seriously you want to get high & wreck your life, fine do it alone, in a room where only you suffer the consequences…dont make it legal to where you have the right to affect others and that is all this legal law is doing…allowing it to affect others..ugh!
