I'm Agnostic..

Should everyone have a belief? And is it really that wrong to not believe in God, or anything of a ‘higher power’? My dad said that I’m very closed minded. I’m eighteen, and to me, that was such an insult!

Answer #1

Belief in the “Higher Ups” are simply ways that people have survived for so long. I don’t think you see animals having a religion or any such thing, do you?

Religion was one of the first structured, human-like thing in the world. We believed because it was always our faith in whatever is out there that kept us going.

I think that it doesn’t matter whether or not you believe in anything. But for a lot of people, me included, sometimes, you can’t help but hold on to something. You want to have something else always there protecting you-call it the fetal complex if you will.

But I remember when I personally lost someone who was close to me. There was so much pain and sadness–but then I remembered that there was something else out there, and that gave me more strength then being alone ever did.

I’m still trying to not be biased. Is it working? XDD

Just stick to what you think feels right, and I think life will take you from there.

It’s not really bad.. to me, believing that there’s a greater existence above humans is true, cause well.. think about it, there’s a lot of things in this world that are just unable to be explained by human minds, and things that we, certainly know is not created by humans, but by whom?

I, myself has a religion, and I chose this religion (even though I was birth by it) because it’s quite logical (I don’t want to be racist so I’m not going to tell what religion is it…), and well not irrasional… it got a reason, and well I personally think I fit with those reasons..

If I don’t have a religion (no offense to people who don’t have one out there), I probably go nuts because I’ll be confused by life and.. well I needed at least one strand of something that is true, and can be trusted.. cause boo me but I think there’s less than 1% of humans in this world that can be trusted (been there, done that)..

so I think it’s really unfair that your dad say so to you… just like what tresaeon say, have faith and you’ll find the answer…

Hi aljouce, No it’s not wrong not to believe in something you can see touch or smell and hear. That is actually what most of us if not almost all at one time or another didn’t believe either. But as you grow older wiser and hopefully less worried about what others think or believe and work on what you feel is the right answer to the question. We are all sentient beings living on this planet, and from the very moment of conception you and I begin to prepare to leave, Death of the Body is but the beginning of what I and countless others believe is the Start of actual Life, we are pure light created by the spark given from an unknown source. Who’s to say that it wasn’t a Supreme Being causing the chain reaction effect. As for myself I don’t care for the Idea that my dna chain evolved from the Ape or pond scum. So, yea I like the Idea that I was created in the image of God the all power all mercyful Not! Ok sorry for the rambling believe what ever makes you happy, and continue to question what doesn’t make sense. Learn, listen and have Faith that you will find the answer your looking for . Tre’s

Answer #4

the people who are closed minded are the ones who can’t accpet people for who they are I’m a witch, Christains are closed to that It’s not wrong, it’s just how you are if you want a religion just start studying diffrent types & go with 1 that fits you best

Answer #5

No. It is not wrong to know that you dont have all the answers. In fact it’s a little arrogant to think you have all the answers… Believe what you want to believe. Being agnostic is keeping your mind open to all possibilities. Your dad said that because you dont believe what he believes. What can be more close minded than that?

Answer #6

Put it this way: If there really is no god (which seems highly likely), how can it be “wrong” to not believe in it?

If there is a god, what are the chances it’s the particular one you’re considering worshipping?

Answer #7

The problem with agnostics, is that most of them still give serious consideration to absurd ideas like gods, afterlife, miracles, etc. If your reasoning skills and skepticism continue to mature, you’ll eventually realize that religious talk is crazy talk.

It’s ok to close you mind to the absurd. If you don’t, you may actually go insane.

Answer #8

Having and believing in God and other Gods is part of you, if you don’t believe then you don’t, but try praying and see what happens, It’s said that the Romans created their God’s as explanations to the unexplainable. I believe and I’m completely religious, but I don’t believe in all God’s, just one. It’s your opinion and I know a lot of people like you, you’re not closed minded, you just have your own outlook on life.

Answer #9

no, its not wrong to not beleive in everything you have just as much right to choose not to beleive in anything as other people have choosing to beleive in something you have the right to beleive in whatever you want weather it be something or nothing… just stick to what you beleive in and dont let people tell you otherwise and especially dont take coments like “your going to hell” ect to heart

Answer #10

I don’t think that believing or not believing in something is wrong. Everyone has their own thoughts, feelings, experiences, etc., and one should rather consider the reasons behind those beliefs. The fact that you don’t believe doesn’t make you a bad person. There are probably many questions that you need the answers to before you can decide if it’s something that you find believable or not. It doesn’t matter what your dad or anyone else says. You know yourself the best, and pretending to believe something that you don’t is far worse than not believing.

Answer #11

I think your generation has been under attack for so long, that unbelief is the norm.

For your fathers generation, it was normal.

I feel for this generation…

It will take a powerful move of God, to bring faith… I believe.

However, God is faithful… and he is able to rise to the challange.

He knows exactly what it will take to build faith, where none exists,

and if someone is praying for you, then, he will do exactly that.

Answer #12

Wow! Thank you so much for all your answers! Muchly appreciated, thanks again!
