How to find out if God exists?

I actually refer to myself as agnostic but I would be interested in knowing how you could find out the existence or non-existence of God.

Answer #1

Hmmm. . . . Must be a Unix thing.

Answer #2

I belive he is waiting for us in heaven, . Somewhere in the bible I remember it saying people rely to much on logic instead of faith, & that is true…example to make it easeir to understand?…the girl who lost her arm in a shark atack (I belive her name is bethany hamilton) logically it would be almost impossible for her to ever surf again right?. but she had faith and hope, and belived she could surf again, & she did surf again. uhh does that make sense for u? sorry if it dosent.

Answer #3

There is no knowing in this world anyway. Since God is assumed to live in a realm outside of our physical reality there is no test we can perform to determine his existance.

I used to believe in God and all the main tenets of Christianity. Then at 12 I started to think critically about God. Is God real or just wishful thinking? Is it reasonable to believe in God? If there was a God would he send his children who he supposedly loves to eternal torment just because they didn’t believed that God nailed his son to a tree for them? If the universe is so complex that it couldn’t just happen and must have been created by God than wouldn’t that make God so complex that he couldn’t have just happened and had to have a creator as well?

My conclusions were:

There is probably no god. The physical universe is probably the sum of reality.

If there is a god it probably isn’t the Christian one.

If the Christian God exists he is not worhty of our worship. He is a cruel unreasonable hypocite.

Answer #4

In unix you can type

% rm God
 rm: God nonexistent

 % ar t God
 ar: God does not exist

 % ar r God
 ar: creating God

That’s good enough for me

Answer #5

I’m a mac and you are a PC (have you seen those ads rnealw)

Sorry but I never had any out of body experiences. Science tells us that these sensations are caused by disturbance of the “obi temporales” in our brain.

Answer #6

.. you will face the ultimate absolute truth.

(or, if you really MUST find out NOW: Separate your awareness from the computer-thing called the human body .. and experience No Thingness .. there you are in the same pre-birth and post-death continuum. Ask then.)

Answer #7

In science, to see is to believe.

But in faith, to believe is to see.

Just ask God to reveal Himself to you in a special way. If you ask it with all your heart, He is the most eager to find a way for you. Your desire to know Him comes from God Himself because He wants you to find Him sooner or later. Otherwise, you wouldn’t care to find Him.

Answer #8

id like to believe but science just kills it. We believe in the bigging of time that he create adam and eve. And in science its the theory of evolution. Tough call Good luck

Answer #9

For me, all I have to do is look around….happenstance didn’t create you or I or the Universe….Faith is the evidence of things not seen….Faith cometh by hearing and hearing comes from the Word of God (The Bible)….a person has free will to either accept or reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior….I see His existence when I look around.

Answer #10

I guess it would be difficult to prove… But I look at the beauty around me and I can’t help but become convinced that there is a creator! I suppose you could also read upon the Ontological and Teliological arguments for the existence of God, but I simply took a step of faith and emotional free fall into God’s arms and was changed inside. I personally believe that if you are asking these questions, then God is gently and lovingly bringing you to Himself!

Answer #11

Just pray. He already knows your needs, wants, questions and desires. He will answer you in His own personal, deep and special way. You will know. Believe, and it will be revealed unto you. Don’t forget to thank God in your prayers. He loves us whether we love Him or not. He is a forgiving God and He will lead you in the right path. Jesus Christ is your own personal savior. Praise God. Prayer works. Amen.

Answer #14

i think it’s very hard if not impossible to really find out if God exists. It’s like santa clause. You hear so many storeys but you never really see him. You can read up on miracles that happined to people that have no other possible explenation except for someone must have been watching over them.

the bible claims he is real. and places in the bible are real so it’s possibly true that the people in the bible are real.

Answer #18

Keep in mind we have more proof of Gods existance than not.

Answer #19

Nothing finite can be infinite (eternal). Since the universe is made of finite things (matter, time, space), it therefor must be created by something without time (timeless), thus making it eternal. If it is eternal, it must be infinite, and if its the Creator, it must be God.

The universe changes, and time is the measure of change. How many changes have happened before right now? If you claim an infinite number of changes (which is impossible because you can not have an infinite amount of finite things), it is a logically impossible to conclude we could ever have reached this moment in time. In a world of cause and effect (which we live in), there can not be an infinite regress (an infinite amount of cause and effect reactions to get to a certain cause).

Allow me to rephrase. Imagine that the Earth orbits the sun every 365 days (it does). Now, on Mars, a year is much longer than an Earth year, being 687 Earth days (basically double). So, for every 2 years of Mars, Earth has circled the sun approximately 4 times. Now, imagine that this has been going on for eternity. By your logic, they would both have circled the sun the exact same amount of times, because its been going on forever (this is clearly impossible). This shows the impossibility of an infinite regress, whereby there could not have been an infinite amount of (x) before right now, in a finite universe based on time.

Now, back to God. God exists outside of time, in Eternity. God created time, and time is irrelevant to Him. God is Eternal, not created. Firstly, you have 2 choices; either everything came from nothing (which is impossible), or something always existed and created us. You have no other choice. Take a moment to think about that, remembering that it can not exist in time, that would be impossible. Time can not be eternal.

This thing that always existed would be considered Eternal, having transcended time, space, and matter, being everlasting, having always existed. If you argue this is impossible, I would argue the contrary; it is impossible for this Eternal ‘thing’ to not exist, because the alternative is that nothing existed, which could only produce nothing. So, something always existed, and is therefor Eternal.

Now, for something to be Eternal, it can not consist of time, because time must have had a beginning. We exist in a universe of causality, so an infinite regress is impossible; there could not have been an infinite amount of time before right now, because we never would have reached this moment in time. That means time had a beginning, and whatever created time exists without time, beyond time, in timelessness; Eternity.

So, this Eternal Creator, created time, and the universe. This Eternal Creator clearly is extremely powerful, because the energy of the trillions of stars in the known universe were created by this Creator. And obviously, the Creator is extremely intelligent, having created an intelligent being such as mankind and a world in which to populate with it.
