How Can I help someone with OCD?

OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)…someone that washes hands excessively, checks things repetitively, counts things, etc.

Answer #1

just accept them for who they are and be patient someone just being there is one of the best therapies there is

Answer #2

Don’t draw attention to the OCD behavior. Like xxthatgirl said, your friend needs to get some professional help to learn some practical coping skills, but as a friend, you could help him/her by being a stress reliever. OCD is worse with stress and anxiety.

Answer #3

There are some hterapy methods that help people with OCD. Encourage them to look for places like this.

If they won’t.. Just be there for them. The OCD is as annoying to them as it is to you sometimes. Don’t like, flip out at them. It’s not their fault. :)

Answer #4

Answer #5

Most people with OCD think that if they don’t do this repetitive things and strange things, something bad with happen to either themselves, or a loved one or friend. I had to realize that nothing bad is going to happent to me, before I could stop my OCD. Maybe you can try and help your friend to see that nothing bad is going to happen if they stop their behavior. Lots of luck!
