Did Jesus actually change the Sabbath day?

I asked one of our elders which day was the sabbath according to the bible. he told me that it was on saturday before the death of jesus, but when he died, peole had to worship on the day of rezurrection.this amazed me so much because jesus said that he came not to destroy the law but to fullffill en that the world will pass away but his word will stay 4ever mind you he was there before creation and the law says that we should rest on the seventh day.so did he acctually change the sabbath day?

The Sabbath is still the Sabbath it is the day the isrealites were commanded to honor the lord under the old law. . . Christians meet on the first day of the week not the sabbeth in honor of the risen Lord. We are no longer under the law of moses which was given to the Isrealites. . . Unless your an Isrealite living under the Torah ( Old testament your not bound by the Old law. when Cheist went to the cross the old law was fulfilled and the new law was ushered in.

Sabbath and worship are two differant things. The sabbath day did not change, you rest on Saturday, the seventh day. We should worship everyday (not being preachy here, I’m certainly no posterchild for daily worship) but church is generally on Sunday, both because of Christs reserection AND you shouldn’t work on Saturday.

THE WORD SABBATH MEANS REST _ CHRIST BECAME OUR REST . WE ARE TO REST IN THE LOVE AND KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST … REMEMBER THE SABBATH AND KEEP IT HOLY… REMEMBER CHRIST AND KEEP HOLY ALL DAYS NOT JUST ONE DAY A WEEK…

There is nothing biblical stating that Jesus changed the Sabbath day. Rev. Peter Geiermann,C.SS.R., The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, P.50,2nd edition, 1910. States:- The Roman Catholic Church cites the Council of Laodicea as the official voice which transferred the “solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.” Note the language of one catechism: “Question - Which is the Sabbath day? “Answer - Saturday is the Sabbath day. “Question - Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday? “Answer - We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea(AD336), transferred the solenity from Saturday to Sunday.” Dan.7:25 states:- he shall intend to change times and laws. The Sabbath is a part of God’s Holy Law which is still binding today. Jesus is the same Yesterday, today and forever more…Mal.3:6 - “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed O sons of Jacob. Psa.89:34-35 - My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the words that has gone out of My lips. Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David. Isa.58:13-14 - “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your own pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, The holy day of the Lord honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, The you shall delight yourself in the Lord; And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the Lord has spoken. There are tons of bible texts regarding the Sabbath..often times people used the excuse that the Law was nail to the cross with Jesus…Surely wasn’t the Law that God wrote with His own finger tips on two tablets of stone..Luke 16:17 - And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the Law to fail. Does this sound like a God that jokes? I don’t think so…He said if you love keep My commamdments. If Gods Law is no longer binding Could someone explain Rev.22:14 “Blessed are those who do His commandment, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Hope I have answered your question.

In Latin, Saturday is still called “Sabbath” (I forget the exact spelling). We interpret the third (some number it the fourth) commandment to keep one day each week as holy, a day with God, kept apart from unnecessary business and other distractions. However, as rneakw says, we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord, the “eighth day” of the new creation. That is one reason that most of our saints’ holydays are not celebrated on Sunday: it is more important to celebrate with the Risen Lord.

However, this change is not a big problem for most Christian Churches. Only the ones who insist on interperting the Bible literally find the commandment to “Keep the Sabbath holy” a sticking point when we actually keep the “Lord’s day”.
