What makes addictions so hard to quit, and how do they start?

I’m only asking because i have been on pain killers for the LONGEST time. About 4 months ago I had surgery in my mouth, then I tore a muscle in my shoulder, then I had another surgery in my mouth, and now my knee is fractured and swollen. So I’ve been taking 6 ibuprofen a day since day 1 of that first surgery, until today. Today I was feeling fine and didn’t take any pills. I’m fine though, like I thought that I would be addicted by now I guess you know? I mean I’m thankful I’m not but I just thought it was weird.

Answer #1

Ibuprofen isn’t a narcotic and isn’t physically addictive.

Its hard to say what causes addiction and how they start because there’s many different ways and factors. Addiction can be both physical - in which your body gets used to the dr.ug and literally freaks out when you stop using making you very ill or mentally addictive in which a person becomes addicted and and honestly feels they can not survive without dru.gs and its literally all they can think about.

Answer #2

I don’t think you are getting addicted to Ibuprofen. You take it for the pain. if the pain has gone you can always quit it at anytime…. However, if you still take it eventhough you do not feel the pain, then it is time for you to see a doctor or psycologist to help you get it stopped.
