Will Gov. Spitzer step down ?

Gov. Eliot Spitzer of NY, Democrat and huge Hillary Clinton supporter, has been busted in a prostitution ring - Will he and should he step down ?

Answer #1

I agree with thedude. he should step down, as should they all. anyone ever notice that it seems as if the ones who preach and talk the most about wrongdoing end up being the ones who do the most wrong and get caught.

Answer #2

Only when Senator David Vitter resigns. From wikipedia:

“This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible. Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there - with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.[90]” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Vitter

Answer #3

I don’t know if he will but I certainly think he should. His hypocrisy is shameful.

Answer #4

I think it has less to do with morals, and more to do with the rule of law. I happen to think prostitution should be legal, but it isn’t and he should be held accountable just like anyone else. I also think it shows he has a real problem, like a sex addiction. His behavior was completely reckless.

Answer #5

He absolutely has to, and will step down. Not only that, but he actually has to worry about staying out of jail. This is a serious federal crime he is facing.

But esconsult1 does bring up a great point, and highlights the hypocrisy of the republicans. David Vitter gets caught with his pants down, and the republicans give him a standing ovation.

Also from Wikipedia:
“Marianne Means, a syndicated columnist for Hearst Newspapers, reported that Republican senators gave Vitter a “loud standing ovation” which she characterized as hypocritical by contrasting this with the Republican attitude toward President Clinton’s marital infidelity.[117] The applause came after Vitter privately apologized to his colleagues.”

I can assure you Spitzer will get no such support from the Democrats.

Answer #6

I think he should…along with every other politician caught with his hand in the, um, cookie jar ;)

Answer #7

Morality matters in politics. A discussion of morals makes many people uncomfortable, because they don’t want to be judged. Folks, we all fail, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a right and wrong. Politicians like Spitzer don’t adhere to a moral standard of absolutes. Their goal is power.

Answer #8

Rumor has it…

Mr. Spitzer, who has endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), did receive a vote of support from her husband, former President Bill Clinton, who offered to “take over his position” if the governor is forced to step down.

“I am happy to perform all of the roles that Eliot has been performing,” Mr. Clinton said, adding that he had the experience to make crucial phone calls at 3 A.M.
