Why do I need so much sleep?

I am in my early 20’s, I have a four year old daughter and I work part time. I am a healthy weight and do plenty of exercise. The problem is I seem to always be tired. If I am moving around it is fine but as soon as I sit down I canot physically stay awake. I fall asleep on the bus home from work and if I try to watch tv on an evening I fall asleep. Last night I fell asleep at about 7:30pm and I woke up at 8am this morning. If I went back to bed now I would still be able to sleep a couple of hours. I don’t know if this is normal or not? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Sleeping 12 hours and still feeling tired is not normal.

You could suffer from sleep apnea. Sleep apnea causes you to stop breathing many times while alseep. You do start breathing again but it keeps you from getting the deep restful sleep you need so you always feel tired. This condition is diagnosed by a sleep study where you sleep while being moitored.

Sleep apnea is probably the most likely cause but you could suffer from narcolepsy, depression, or anemia as well.

it might be normal if you sleep deprvived from caring for your daughter or from other reasons sleep deprivation will make you sleppy and youll feel tirde at random times and any time when yuo stop moving if youve been getting around 8 hours of sleep a day though and arnt tired from staying awake at times to care for your child, something might be wrong so it would be best to see a dcotor about this so they can find out why youve been falling asleep and sleeping in for a while

Well, I’m no expert on sleep (I don’t like it and hardly sleep more then 6 hours) but If you say you’re 20 now with a 4-yr-old means you where pregnant at 16. People have the tendency to just live on, and not taking in consideration they need time to deal with stuff as well. Maybe what you do now is dealing with the difficulties of the past. It’s not the first time I’ve seen this happen. Worries are very exhausting :) Imagine having to catch up for 4 years of worries, no wonder you sleep so much ;)
