What should I eat, drink, etc. If I'm 13 and prego?

I’m 13 years old and I’ve just recently found out I was pregnant. I have a lot of friends who already have a baby but they’re like 15 or 16. My boyfriend has a job and he’s 15. A little over a year older than me but not by much. I don’t need any hate comments like “You’re too young” and stuff like that. Just information about what to eat, what NOT to eat and stuff like that while I’m pregnant. By the way I’m keeping it for those of you who might ask.

Avoid Alcohol, avoid cigarettes, avoid drugs - it can cause your baby to be disabled.

If there are allergic people in your family, google the internet for allergy-causing foods. That can be strawberries, peanuts and a hell of a lot of other stuff. Avoid those.

Whole milk is OK if it goes fine with your digestion but you should avoid raw milk (directly out of the cow with no treatment whatsoever) and products of it like raw-milk cheese. Also avoid honey. As well as everything made of raw eggs. These foods can have dangerous bacteria inside.

Avoid junk food. Do not eat too many sweets.

Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and white meat (chicken, fish). With rice. Get vitamines.

Some people get problems with iron and magnesium deficites during pregnancy. As long as you don’t have those, you are OK. If you get them you can try red fruits and veggies like grapes, red cabbage, red lenses for iron and bananas or amaranth cereals for magnesium. Or you can compensate with supplement pills.

Call WIC its gov. funded and you get education on what to eat and they provide with milk, fruits, beans all the good things you might need. Go to www.fns.usda.gov/oane/menu/Published/WIC/FILES/wichdst.pdf for more info. Best wishes and God Bless

Fish is good for you, but because of the mercury you need to stick to only one 3oz serving per week. That is very important when you are pregnant. The main thing to do is see a doctor very often and ask every question you think of. No question is dumb. If your doctor is not taking plenty of time to address your concerns you need to find a different doctor. You are very young to be going through this and you need a very patient and understanding doctor who is willing to explain every little detail to you.

Don’t you go to like anti-natal classes and such? I thought you HAD to attend or maybe Im wrong. I would suggest going to some sort of group so you can share experinces with them.

Firstly, quite oubviusly; no alcohol, no drugs and no smoking while your pregnant.

Try to eat plenty of iron, fibre, fruit, vegetables- basically food that is good for you. Fish is supposed to be good for expectant mums but try to stay clear of real fatty red meats and sugary food

be sure to get enough protein… ask your doctor about specific regulations in your diet but no alchohol, pop, coffee, or energy drinks. dont smoke or do any dru.gs. take prenatel vitamins. eat fruits and vegetables grown in north america or europe( most produce from other foreign countries use fertilizers that are illegal in north america and europe and need further sanitation process that water..if its tomatoes soak them in vineagar to break up the fertilizer/ pesticides) or try and stick to organic produce. make sure you get enough iron. no whole milk. try soy products because they are super healthy. dont eat a lot of sugary foods. make sure you get 2200-2500mg of sodium a day at the most…any more than that can give you heart problems and can possibly harm the baby. try maternity yoga to keep fit and make friends with other moms to be. thats all i can think of right now but i hope it helped and good luck :) what do you think you are going to name the baby? is it going to be a boy or a girl?
