How can I convince my mom I'm ready to shave?

Well, guys, thanks for the really great advice that you gave me for my other question : Never Shaved and I’m 13 My mom still hasn’t let me shave, and I’ve been sticking to all long pants for a while. It works, I’m not getting teased obivously. The only real reason that she won’t let me shave now is because ‘I don’t need to’… Of course I don’t agree with her. My hair’s is thin but long, so it looks STRANGE. Now the question is: how can I convince her that my legs are ready to be shaved? Thanks a lot, and if you don’t have an answer, just tell me a shaving story you have :) !

Girl, your mom shouldnt tell you you cant shave if you want to thats your choice… I didnt even ask my mom if I could start shaving and I been shaving since I was about 12… and I mean everywhere. its clean and fun to doo… I wouldnt ask my mom if I could shave … Good luck I hope your mom lets you do things more on your own sooner or later…

Answer #2

well maybe she is scared that you will cut your self

I don’t shave but I use this like nair cream stuff and it gets rid of hair with no possibilty of cuts

Answer #3

I’d suggest to your mother that your legs are bothering you and the hair on your legs need to come out.

My mother wouldn’t let me shave for the longest time until my father and sister had to convince her that it was about time that I shaved.

This was when I was your age.

You could also tell your mother that this is embarrassing and people are starting to notice.

Otherwise, I’m not sure what else you could say to her but, it’s about time.

Eventually she’ll get the picture. Maybe not right now, but someday.

I didn’t even ask my mom - I just went ahead and did it because I figured once I hit puberty (got my period) I was enabled to shave, so I did. You shouldn’t need anyone’s permission to shave, its stopping you from wearing certain things and kind of controlling you in a way so she shouldn’t have a problem. Tell her it’s getting itchy or something. Heck, just go do it :) If she catches you, you can blame some girl on Funadvice (me!:) )

Answer #6

Answer #7

Answer #8

Just randomly one day go up to your mom and show her your legs and make her feel it. Tell her if you want me to be a woman you will let me shave.

Answer #9

I think you have to tell your mum how bad it is when you have to show your legs ( swimmming, sport, etc) and your the only girl with hairy legs, say the boys & girls tease you about it, and you hate going to school. She will either say yes, and if she doesn’t just use some removel cream, I used it for a while, its pretty good, but my mum won’t let me shave :(, I have to wax, but the problem is that its expensive, so sometimes I do have hairy legs and im 13!! My mum, shaved when she was younger, so I don’t see why I can’t. it just unfair!!! When I am older, I am just going to do it anyways!

hope you mum lets you :) Good luckk xxx

I know how you feel. I am 16 and I am still not allowed to use an actual razor. At the end of freshman year I was allowed to use nair. Last year (junior year), my mom bought me an electric razor, but the foil is falling off, and the nair totally makes a chemically rashy mess on my legs. So, this year, I got a free venus razor, and used it without her knowing, and she still hasn’t found out yet. I feel bad doing it behind her back, but I am seriously the only girl in my highschool who doesn’t use a razor. Eeeew! Good luck!

Answer #11

don’t rush it, ONce you start you have to do it more often and it comes back darker

Answer #12

im going through the same problem I want to shave but im scared to ask/tell my mom

Answer #13

I just did it anyway my sister gave me razors but its been like a year and my mom hasn’t said anything but I think she noticed and I am really nervous… So if I were you I would ask her from the start

Answer #14

Im having the same problem as you right now, my mom says “your legs arnt hairy, if it was black and spicky it would be differnt” my hair is black and ow my hair is spicky and my tigh is ugh horrible it looks nasty but I wear something to cover it but this is what im going to do. Its summer soon and I will be swimming and once she see’s me with that ugly hair she may let me shave and my b-day is in a month todays April 24th and my birthday is May 24th so its in 30 days so you should try what I am trying but I’ve been told by 2 people that I need to shave just make her look at your hair and she may feel your pain.

Answer #15

My mom told me I had to have my period before I was allowed to shave my legs. Of course, I was 11 when I got my period. You need to tell her that you want to be able to wear skirts, dresses and bathing suits w/o being embarassed. Or, just go to the store, buy a razor and shaving cream and have at it. Be careful though. You dont want to cut yourself.

Answer #17

my father didn’t let me shave until I was 15yrs. I went to a catholic school and had to wear a skirt with hairy legs it was so embarassing.

Answer #18

I don’t tell my mom anything, just because she’s so restricting and makes a big deal out of everything as if I was a 3-year-old being potty-trained.

I have pretty much the same problem, good luck!

It’s not helpful when people tell you to “shave anyway” because at 13, you can’t drive to the store, or pay for everything.
