is there any law that permits you to go over the speed limit 5 miles?? ex on 45 mph you can go 50 mph?? my mom say you can but a friend of mine got ticketed for going 64 mph on a 60??? I want to know because if its true I will stay on speed limit!!
Well its more or less at the cops discretion. Most of them wont pull you over for just doing 4 or 5 mph over the speed if your in like a 50mph or higher zone. But they can technically nail you for just 1 or 2 mph over the speed limit. The normally give you some leway b/c your speedo could be off by a 1 or 2 mph or their radar gun could be off my a 1mph.
Don't worry about it. Just go with the flow of traffic like it was mentioned earlier. What you really need to worry about is when you go thru a town and the speed limit suddenly drops to like 35 or 25. Make sure you are doing the speed limit at those times. They set up speed traps in places like that.
No there is not. My driving philosophy is, there is a reason that the posted speed is at what its at. So, I'm pretty anal about going the speed limit, and I may drive a car, but I don't let the big trucks push me around (unless they're too close). But yeah don't test it, go the speed limit.
Speed laws are made so that you can be ticketed for anything over the speed limit. Traffic officers have discretion in whether they ticket you, but there is no law that says you won't get a ticket for going only a little over.
Hmm, that's interesting, because I thought that between 1-5 miles you only got a warning. If they took the ticket to court it would probably be dismissed...
It largely depends on what state you're in, and what kind of mood johnny law is in. Just go with the flow (of traffic) and you'll be fine.
