Can I put my gerbil back into the part of the cage the other died in?

this is probly a stupid question, but i had two male gerbils and one sadly and suddenly died in october, i have a rotostak cage and the part i found in dead in i removed and, mostly due my sadness, i never put it back even when cleaned and disinfected. the cage is still huge but the part i removed was deep and good for tunneling and i think i should put it bak for the other gerbil now. i know it wont be infected or anything by now but will it still smell of the other gerbil as it hasnt been cleaned as much as the rest of the cage? and will it remind the gerbil of its brother? also its bin almost 5 months and the living gerbil seems happy and healthy but should i consider getting it a friend? its 1 and a bit years old? thanks :)

Yes if u have cleaned and disinfected it :-)

As long as you know the other one didn’t die from something that was in the cage. Disinfect it throughly before if you do.
