Why do some people put ".!" (both a period and an exclamation point) at the end of their sentences?

I don’t get it. Aren’t you only supposed to use one?

If it’s a statement or command, then you should put “.” a period. If it’s an exclamatory sentence, then you should put “!” an exclamation point.

Correct?

I am just wondering the logic behind it. I mean, people spell words “lyk dis” because they claim it’s easier and it’s quicker to do. So, what is the reasoning for “.!” …?

Answer #1

i do that, cuz like, i dont wanna seem like im being mean and yelling at someone, but to show that im like rly mad or serious or talking a little loud. rly just to get it through that its something serious. but when i say it im kinda like talking.

Answer #2

Its bad grammar and punctuation. Haven’t you been here long enough to know that people obviously didn’t pay attention in their English classes. lol

Answer #3

Yes, that is how it’s soppoost to go, I just think that people are so used to using the period at the end of a sentence that they just forget.

Answer #9

I sometimes do it for emphasis. To show that being blunt and it’s important. Very important.!

Answer #10

I view it basically as the same reason that people do this: “?!” I guess it’s basically to take the edge off the exclamation point a little bit :)

Answer #11

I don’t do that but i do this “!?” Lol.x

Answer #15

I agree with mandyloo, it’s bad grammar. You never put a period and an exclamation mark together. If one wants to emphasize a statement put only the exclamation mark, otherwise, don’t.

Answer #18

I do it because I don’t really care what people think. I know the correct way to do it, but I couldn’t care less. I mean, if I want to put “.” and “!” at the end of a sentence, I’m going to do it. There’s more important things to worry about than exclaimation points and periods lol. So, yup.!

Answer #19

I hate when people do that, people need to go back to school haha
