Do people only hear what they want to hear coming out of the mouths of politicians?

For example, there was a recent inquiry regarding Ontario’s finance minister. He was accused of telling the mother of an autistic child to have the boy “jailed”. The woman made quite a big deal about the whole issue, which, resources found later was incorrect. So, in general, do people actually look for dirt wherever they can find it or do you think the “resources” launched a fantastic cover up?

Answer #1

I suppose. I dont hear anything I want to here coming from any politicians. I want to hear things like: “Government is not here to solve your problems”, and “we need to reduce the size of Government”, and “Hell, we will just open up area 51 so people can see the aliens and the alien spaceship”.

Answer #2

I personally think that you only hear what they want you to hear. Do people look for dirt as much as possible? Sure, a lot do. But I do think that there are a lot of legitimate cases that get covered up sneakily.

Answer #3

Absolutely. It happens with just about ever president that we have. Someone takes their statements and twists them to their own needs to cause drama, or they hear them in a different manor simply because they dont like the person saying them. I think when a person doesnt like the politition they in fact read into things they say more, therefore coming up with false negative statements.

Answer #4

It’s mutual. People only hear what they want from politicians as you say. Also, politicians will often tell people what they want to hear.

Answer #5

I think those are two separate questions. Research has shown that people will often hear what they want to hear. They hear stuff that pretty much supports the way they think, and ignore (not necessarily deliberately) the stuff that contradicts what they think. I think when it comes to politicians, people go out looking for dirt deliberately. Why would any politician be stupid enough to tell the mother of an autistic kid to be jailed. I mean it’s too stupid to be believable.

Answer #6

Yep… thats why i am aginst any form of political and government personal, which is ironic being that i have gov. this year in school… oh, world history v_v i misses you >.<

Answer #7

I think if it suits their interests why not.
