ok ok I hope this doesn't sound stupid but is a pelvic exam the same as a pap smear? Or are they two different things?
They are 2 different things. A pelvic exam just helps a doctor evaluate the size and position of the vagina, cervix, uterus, and ovaries. A pap smear is when the doctor collects a sample of cells which are obtained by scraping the cervix during a pelvic examination. Pap smears are important because they can detect abnormalities that may lead to cancer.
