My 13 year old cat is really making me crazy! She is female, spayed...
when I lived at my parents house, she would poop right next to her litterbox and NEVER in it. I got married and we moved into a brand new house and she started using her litter box! If I kept it clean, she would poop in it ALWAYS! Then, we got this chunk of NEW carpet from my parents (they redid the carpet in a room and there were leftovers) and put that downstairs (our basement is unfinished). She immediately started pooping on it. So we rolled it up and she started pooping in her litterbox again. Then, all of the sudden, she started pooping all over on the floor down there! I tried blocking off the areas that she was pooping in and then she just starts pooping somewhere else! I have tried changing litter, keeping it clean doesn't work anymore and I have taken her to the vet and they expressed her anal glands and that didn't work and they did tests and nothing was wrong. I just don't know what to do anymore!
Any advice?!?!?! Please help!
I wish I knew the answer too!! My 13 year old cat is pooping on the carpet to. She has never done anything like this before always in her box. She is having some health problems but I don't understand why they should affect where she does her business. It got so bad we had to remove our carpet in the living room and are putting down hardwood. ugh!!
Maybe her and my 2 dachsunds need to attend "where it is permissible to poop" classes together. I think my "kids" like the carpet because they want to keep their feet warm while they poop!! (: that's the only thing I have been able to guess as my kids are fine healthwise as well. Shall we chalk it up to stubborness?
I have 2 litter boxes down there now. I've tried blocking the areas that she was pooping on and she just poops somewhere else...Thanks for the help...if anyone has anything else to offer...I am willing to try just about anything right now.
Cats hate all changes...even subtle ones, like a new carpet...maybe try several litter boxes in the basement, so she has choices...at least for a while, and then gradually take them away.

Lol @ tottenham1. I think your cat is just a rebel. A bad*ss. She's obviously too cool for litter boxes. Contact the authoritys, tell them whats going down, and they'll take care of it.
why dont you just take it to the pet shop or wherever you got it from and then exchange it for another you like and thst dont poop around
My stubborn cat did this all the time... Then I got a new litter box, a bigger one, and she just stopped... It's worth a try...
maybe its because the kitty is getting sorta old...otherwise, I don't have many other ideas as to what might be happening.
how rude! You are heartless!
