Why won't my cat eat or drink?

MY 8 yr old cat has stop eating and drinking, all her blood work and xrays are ok. What would be the problem?

definately take her back to the vets one more time. not too long ago there were all of those cat food recalls, my aunts cat had kidney failure from the food. her cat use to be huge, and he just stopped eating, they weren’t able to feed him anything. a while before he passed away, my aunt would specially get him his favorite kind of lunch meat, and make him little fish fillets, so he would be able to eat. it was still hard for him until she had to eventually put him down because he was in so much pain.

but another thing, if she’s an indoor/outdoor cat, make sure she’s not snacking at a neighbors house. my suzy was doing that for a while, and she porked up quick but wasn’t eating much here…

with age some cats do get picky with food there trying to tell you there missing somethig in there old food.try tuna in water not in that vegtable oil,and he will love treats make sure there good for him first ask your vet ,what food is best, but if he passes up on that tuna take him back to the vet..

It could be what you are feeding her. My cat did the same thing at ten years old. Try changing her foor. The brand of cat food really makes a difference. Also if she is eating hard food, try feeding her soft food (the kind in the can).

Good Luck!

Have her blood work done again…it sounds to me like kidneys…The kidneys of older cats are their “weak” spot, just like the the livers of older dogs…also, if she has a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection), they need urine, not blood…Maybe try some good canned food and see if you can entice her to eat something (this will help keep her hydrated)…then take her back to the vet…I think they missed something.

My 15 yearold cat is doing this exact same thing, and has gone from being my big “Budda Cat”, to a so tiny and thin little thing in 3 weeks…His is chronic kidney failure.

Answer #5

My cat did that. He got really picky about his food. Give it tuna, wet food, or anything new.

Answer #6

I’m sure s/he is alright… I dont always see my cat eat either

Answer #7

My cat was very ill on monday so we took him to the vets where he stayed for almost two days. They did various tests and put him on a drip. The vet said George had minor liver problems but nothing to worry about and said his teeth look bad but that too is nothing to worry about. When home George acted very timid and refused water and food. However I put this down to recovering from the drip and the sedation. But he is still acting like it this morning and wont let anyone go near his mouth. I’ve booked an appointment for him to see the vet at 6 but im wondering if his teeth are causing the problems or is he possibly traumatized from the experience as he is a very sensitive cat
