My living room decor is made up of mostly black furniture. All our picture frames are black the couches are dark grey among other things. Our dining room is adjacent to the living room and the furniture there is brown. I saw these really nice curtains that were a dark brown color with very small swirls of color would these match at all with the decor, I could try adding brown accesories around the two rooms. Oh also I would use these curtains in both rooms (living & dining).
for your room try adding rich reds and different fabrics, do like an asian inspired bedroom. The dining room is brown so add colors that go with like orange, greens, maybe reds, etc. Your grey couch needs a cover. Plan what you want first and alter your furniture to go with your idea
I agree with the idea of adding some brown accents in the living room ... just by doing that, you can tie both rooms together nicely.
