Yes, Joseph Smith was the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. it was founded in 1830. As a young boy at age 14, he was praying in the woods near his Home in Pelmyra New York forgive my spelling and that’s where he saw his first vision, when Heavenly Father and his beloved son Jesus appeared to him. He wasn’t all that educated, maybe education of a 3rd grader. That’s when things took place when it came to the Angel Moroni and the Book of Mormon before he was pursurcuted which was 1844. Joseph Smith was a Prophet Seer, and Revelator. If you want more information on Joseph Smith and his translation of the Book of Mormon, you can go to the sites the person above mentioned, or there is mormon.org, and lds.org. I happen to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and love it! The people are great. They are also supportive in many ways including, emotional, and financial. I joined the Latter-Day Saint or Mormon Church in December 2006 right around New Years Eve. Its been 2 years since I joined. I’m glad you asked this question.

Yes, Joseph Smith, who lived from 1805 to 1844, was the founder of the Latter Day Saints, or Mormon church.

It all began in 1927, when he said he began to receive revelations from an angel who had shown him a set of golden plates that told about how Jesus had visited the North American continent and preached among the native Americans. This formed the basis for the Book of Mormon.

Members of the new movement moved gradually westward (Smith himself came from Vermont), encountering persecution for these beliefs. Smith was assassinated by a mob of non-Mormons in Illinois.

The movement established itself in Utah later, under Brigham Young.
