I'm a Junior in high school, should I go out for track?

Over the summer I tried to lose some weight through runnning and realized I really enjoyed running. I’m still not in very good shape, and I’ve never found a sport I was actually good at.. but I really want to go out for track in the spring. Is it possible for me to get into shape for track by March? Is junior year too late to go out for a new sport? any other advice?

Join, DUH! It’s better late than never! If you like it, then who cares if you’re not the best runner? Run because you love it!

Answer #2

It’s never too late to take up track. Speak to the coach now about your concerns and tell him/her what you just told us on this forum…that you’ve just discovered running and love it! Confess that you’re worried about your abilities but add that you really want to join. Ask for some tips on what to do in the months leading up to track. If she/he is a good coach, she’ll/he’ll express how great it is to have you aboard, will affirm your excitement and will say your ability level doesn’t matter. You might not place highly in meets, or be able to compete in some of the events, but you’ll be practicing with the team, and trust me, there will be other students who are just joining, too. Many take up sports in their sophomore or junior year so they have it to show on their college applications. Have fun!

Haha yes! if you have been runnning all summer you shouldn’t be in to bad of shape now! I suggest you try out for the team! running is amazing ..and if you enjoy it why not do it?
