How old does a cat have to be to go to the bathroom themseves?

We just got a kitten a day and a half ago, and he won’t go to the bathroom. When we got him, we were told he was litter trained, but the one time he has gone was in the same place my daughter spilled her water.

yeah I agree with the above statement you have to keep taking the kitten to the litter bow say like every 3 hours or so to get it to know where it is and that thats where it’s supppse to go. I’ve had 7 kittens at once and the mom died. me and my mom had to do this for a week or so for them to know what to do.

Answer #2

they usually dont have to be trained, when my cat was a kitten I just put a litter box down and he sniffed in it, so I took his paw and rubbed it in the litter, so days later he started using it, :)

Just be patient…you don’t say how old this kitten is…but I can tell you that if it’s less than 8 weeks, you’re going to have to put the kitten in the box often…Mama cats lead their babies to the box…and mama kitties, if left to their own devices don’t wean kittens until they are about 3 or 4 months old.
