how may times are you supposed to workout chest

I heard that you are supposed to workout your chest once a week and all the other muslces twice a week if this is true how many reps and sets do you do

im not an expert or anything but, what I do is like work it out every other day that way you can recover, there are lots of way of working out different particular areas of the chest
