How long it take for belly piercing infection to heal?

I have done belly piercing 2 months ago, it got infected recently. I do wash it triple with antibacterial soap & soak it with boiled salt water. After 2 months it was extremely painful, itchy, red & discharging pus. I applied antibacterial lotion (Amikacin),pain gone after 3 days, however still itchy & red-purple crusty layer around upper part of piercing, Please let me know if I am on the right track & how long it will take to heal completely. I don’t wear any tight clothes, looking after it, pretty much by book.

thanks a lot

Oh VERY CLEVER maebee, terrific!! Concentrate on what is IMPORTANT here, an INFECTION, get it now??

I am no fan of piercings precisely because of the severe risk of infection. And of course the person who carried out the piercing is a medical expert are they??? Are you seriously suggesting by what you have written that the “piercing” and the “right” to having them, and of course one’s precious “self esteem” and “empowerment” to exercise ones “right” to piercings etc, is more important than not picking up and infection and the dangers of DELAYING a cure and or treatment.

This infection has been going on FOR MONTHS, or do you think that “one more day” of redness, infection and pus, is somehow OK? THis is an infection of the body wall, near an area that is well served by blood vessels that can carry that infection elsewhere.

And you, meabee, are seriously suggesting after MONTHS, going to see e person whose sole “speciality” and “expertise” is sticking needles and sundry sharp objects through people’s bodies.

Ultimately 101278, it’s your choice, but if you have any sense you will GO TO THE DOCTOR and ignore those who think that an infection that has gone on for months and won’t clear up can somehow be dealt with by a piercing studio.

The longer you leave it untreated, the worse it will get.

And in answer to “meabee”, yes, I really dislike this “fashion”, especially the real risks to health.

I suggest that you go to the Doctor or local clinic ASAP.

You will probably need antibiotics and hopefully that’s all.

There are some terrible infections around that can be a serious health risk, some being resistant to drugs.

There have been cases of MRSA and rarely necrotising fasciitis.

Why on Earth do you actually want to stick a lump of metal through your body. Sorry I can’t work this out. To me it doesn’t look cool and so many are left with scars and infections.

Don’t self-treat, ignore the advice of friends, GO TO A DOCTOR before it becomes more serious, especially if antiseptics and salt-water aren’t working.

For my part, I’d advise getting rid of the bloody thing, it’s no longer an “individual” thing if everyone has one.

Not being judgemental, but get it checked out.

Go back to the person who pierced you 1st. They will be able to help you out. And also advice was asked about the piercing not what people think of piercings in general.
