How dose painting the bottom of your foot with iodine help?

You know those little bottles of iodine that you use for cuts and such. it’s kind of a brown color. well I was just thinking about what my dad told me. I have a cold and my dad told me to paint my foot with iodine. I did it befor and it worked…but why and how dose it work? Can someone help me out?

Basically iodine is an antiseptic like dettol or savlon and keeps the would from being infected which helps it heal a lot quicker. It is also used in certain surgical wound dressing and keeps the wound clean and a clean wound always heals well.
