How can I stop coughing without cough meds?

Well I have pneumonia! I was in the hospital for 4 days. The doctor sent me home with antibiotics, pain medicine, and albuterol inhalers. Well the inhalers and coughing already have my pulse up pretty high can you give me any home remedies to stop coughing so I can rest the doctor dont want me taking any more cough medicine because of rapid heart beat. PLEASE HELP!!!

Are you sure this isn’t swine flu? I’ve heard of people having pneumonia-like symptoms, being hosptialized, then getting sent home - but dying from H1N1 (swine flu). I’m not trying to scare you and I’m not saying that you for sure have H1N1, I’m just trying to cover all the bases just in case. If you haven’t been tested for it, I’d go to the doctors and have them test you right away just to be safe. If your doctor isn’t in, check yourself back into the hosptial and have them test you. It might also be a good idea to re-check yourself anyway since your still not feeling well that way they can keep a close eye on your rapid heart beat and give you the right medications you need to get you better. It could very well just be that you need to be under the hospital’s care a little longer. Pneumonia is sucky and hard to get over sometimes. My grandma had it and was hospitalized for about a week.

When I was younger my mom would say not to lay flat on your back while coughing. I’m not really sure why but it always seemed to help. Try sleeping with more pillows at night and drink lots of water. Iholly has a good idea also. Good Luck!

When I have a cough I like to drink lemonade warmed up in the mircrowave for like 45 seconds to a minute, and then mix honey in it. It’s really tasty and makes me feel better as well as my throat.
