How can I add mixed number fractions?

My daughter and I are doing mixed number fractions we are stumped on one of them can someone explain to her how to ge the answer to 8 6/11 + 3 1/3 without remainder thanks

Answer #1

8 6/11 + 3 1/3 =

94/11 + 10/3 =

282/33 + 110/33 =

392/33 =

11 29/33

Huh…well, that doesn’t look right. ponders

Does it? I have no idea.

Considering it’s been 15 years since I did fractions, though, not bad.

Answer #2

Well make it impropper, and add it like you normally would. then convert it back to a mixed number at the end (the answer)
