help on solving equations?

6x - 5x = negative 2x + 11

can you solve this equation for me and explain every step. thanks!!

Answer #1

HERE…

That makes for a simpler answer. 6x - 5 = -2x + 11 Get the x terms on one side by ADDING 2x to each side (Adding the same value to both sides of an equality, and it remains an equality.) 6x - 5 + 2x = -2x + 11 + 2x (The -2x and the +2x on the right side cancel out leaving… ) 6x - 5 + 2x = 11 OR 8x - 5 = 11 Isolate the x term by adding 5 to each side (additive property again) 8x - 5 + 5 = 11 + 5 which reduces to 8x = 16 AND THEN Divide both sides of an equality by the same amount (must be non-zero!!) In this case use 8 because you want the value of x , 8x / 8 = 16 / 8 EQUALS x = 2

Answer #2

ill keep helping you, but if you dont understand the concept, get a tutor. dont get mad at me, im just sayin…if these are individual problems and you can understand the rest, a challenge should be accepted because you need to master these concepts for future references.

so…6x - 5 = 2x + 11

get x by itself. I would subtract 2x from both sides.

now you have 4x - 5 = 11

add 5 to both sides so you have 4x = 16

divide x by 4 and x will equal 4

DUDE THIS IS RIGHT EVEN CHECK I DARE YOU

Answer #3

o wait no, sorry I typed it wrong, it was:

6x - 5 = negative 2x + 11

sorry it wasnt 5x it was just 5. can you explain it for me know

please?

Answer #4

well you have to get all the x’s to one side then it would be the oppositve

it would make it 2x+6x-5x=11 then combine like terms 3x=11 then you have to get x by itself

you have to do the inverse so 3x divided by 11

so 11 divided by 3 would be x

Answer #5

ha ah a…I think we all got different answers.

Answer #6

wow…

2x is negative…

my bad =P

you should use a bigger font =)

Answer #7

no its 5!! not 5x, I typed it wrong!!

Answer #8

haven’t taken math for like…2 years, so this is probably wrong…nevertheless…I am bored and will try.

  1. get all the x’s on one side.

6x - 5x = -2x + 11 (+2x) (+2x)

6x - 5x +2x = 11

  1. combine like terms.

6x - 5x +2x = 11 (6x +-5x +2x=3x) = 11 3x = 11

  1. get x by itself.

3x = 11 (3x/3) (11/3) x = 11/3

no idea if this is right…but I was bored.

Answer #9

6x - 5 = -2x + 11

1.) Group the “like terms”. The 6x and the -2x are like terms because they both have an x with them. the -5 and the 11 are also like terms because they are both just numbers on their own. Hence, you want to move the -2x over to the left side (to be with the 6x) and you want to move the -5 to the right side to be with the 11.

2.) Now, any time you move one term over to the other side, you need to change the sign in front of it. So - becomes + and vice versa. If the term doesn’t have a + or - in front of it, assume it’s + (like the 6x is actually +6x)

3.) So… 6x - 5 = -2x + 11

Move the -2x to the left (so it becomes +2x) so you add 2 to 6 so the equation becomes: 8x - 5 = 11

Move the -5 to the right (so it becomes +5) so you add 5 and 11 together so the equation becomes: 8x = 16

4.) Now instead of + and - you are dealing with x and / (multiplication and division). The aim of this whole thing is to get the x by itself, so you want to get the 8 over to the right side to be with the 16. When two things (such as 8x) are put next to each other like that, it means they are being multiplies. 8x is the same as writing 8 multiplied by x, so you do the opposite (divide) when you move it over to the other side. So… 8x = 16

you divide the 16 by the 8 which is 2 so your answer is x = 2

hope that helped :)
