How can I figure out this variations math equation?

The cost of a taxi ride (C) is partly constant (b) and partly varies with the distance travelled (d). A ride of 22km costs $42.40 and a ride of 25km costs $47.80. Find the cost of a journey of 17km. HELP?

Answer #1

Well I’m not sure this is right, but wouldn’t you divide $42.40 by 22km to find the cost of a ride for 1km, and then just multiply that by 17?

Answer #2

the answer is $33.40…pretty close but not it. but still appreciate the help mate

Answer #3

Going up by 3km adds $5.40. From 17 to 22 Km is five 1.66 X 3 is five (as close as u can really get with out going over) so do 1.66 X 5.40 and then subtract your awnser from a 22km taxi rides cost.

Answer #4

how did you get $5.40???
