My parents have set up a trip to thailand for christmas, my problem is that I have an absolutely crippling fear of spiders, I get panick attacks just by looking at pictures. I have seen thr kind of "wildlife" present in thailand and I dont know if I would remain sain after seeing a goliath tarantula or something. What should I do? Plead with my parents and as them to leave me behind? Or accept the fact that I am going in the outback regions of thailand and that there is nothing I can do about it (more stresful than school) ? Please help!!
I just came back from Thailand. Was there for 3 weeks.
During that time, I never saw a single spider, not even a little one :-) And I was in a pretty rural area too, with lots of other animals.
Going to Thailand has so much upside, its not even funny. The level of personal service and friendliness is crazily amazing. Great (and cheap) food is literally everywhere!
Have a good time, and stop thinking about monsters under the bed.
If you're staying in good hotel in different cities then I don't see why you would encounter any spiders more then you would at home. Chances are you won't even see a spider. I however do not recommend going trekking in the forests of northern Thailand and if possible avoid going to cheaper hotels in small towns. As long as you stay out of nature and bad hotels you should be fine. Have fun!!
If you are that scared, I would stay with your parents at all times - if you don't want to be on your own with one. But if you want to be alone, then just say to yourself that it is definitely more scared of you than you are of it. Just think of a cartoon spider with a cute face, and think of it as that :)
you can overcome the fear by relizing they cant harm you, and you are bigger. Go and be strong
